Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (12/3/2025) – Headlined by wins over Elmira College (W, 2-0 on Sept. 6) and Cedar Crest College (W, 1-0 on Sept. 17), and an All-Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Second Team selection for junior defender
Lillie Uttenreither (Bel Air, Md.), Gwynedd Mercy University's 2025 season concluded with a 2-14 overall record and a 0-4 league standing. Uttenreither totaled seven points (2 goals, 3 assists) and 18 shots, while fellow captain, senior forward,
Mackenzie Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Red and Gold offensively with 10 points (4, 2) and 42 shots. Junior,
Nikki Williams (Cinnaminson, N.J.) (1-10) played a majority of the goalkeeping minutes (741:53) and made 92 saves on 132 shots faced; she sported a .697 save percentage (SV%) and a 3.24 goals-against average (GAA).
Gwynedd Mercy University's 2025 season began with losses to Misericordia University (L, 0-5 on Aug. 29) and Delaware Valley University (L, 0-3 on Sept. 3). The Griffins put themselves in the win column with a 2-0 victory over Elmira College on September 6. An aggressive Griffin offense wore down the Eagle defenses in the third quarter, where goals from Uttenreither (1-0, 39:45) and freshman forward
Gianna Radcliffe (Harleysville, Pa.) (2-0, 43:16) capitalized on the collective backfield effort as the Red and Gold defense kept the Eagles from taking a shot in the frame. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kelly Weaver (Flemington, N.J.) completed the picture with seven saves in her first win of the season and first shutout of her career.
In similar fashion, losses to Arcadia University (L, 0-3 on Sept. 10) and Eastern University (L, 1-6 on Sept. 13) were avenged by a 1-0 triumph over Cedar Crest College (Sept. 17). Gwynedd Mercy University waited out lightning and over 50 minutes of game play to secure their second win as an early Reed goal; 1-0 (9:50), stood up behind a superb performance from Williams and the Red and Gold defense. Williams made two saves in her first win of the season, while Uttenreither, freshman
Amanda Minteer (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), junior
Keleigh Clausius (Landenberg, Pa.), and senior
Abby LePage (Cinnaminson, N.J.) controlled the Falcons' chances on goal.
That week – and the Griffins' seven-game opening homestand - concluded with a 3-2 loss to Ramapo College (Sept. 20). Radcliffe (1-0, 0:43) and Uttenreither (2-1, 16:38) gave Gwynedd Mercy University first-half leads, but pair of second-half scores (44:58, 54:33) secured the Roadrunners the win. Williams made six saves to complete her resume for an appearance on the AEC Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll (Sept. 22).
On the road, the Red and Gold battled through losses to Moravian University (L, 0-1 on Sept. 24), Hood College (L, 0-7 on Sept. 27), Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) – Florham (L, 0-2 on Oct. 1), and Albright College (L, 2-3 (OT) on Oct. 4), before concluding their non-conference schedule with a 7-0 loss to Lebanon Valley College (Oct. 8).
The AEC season was highly competitive as Gwynedd Mercy University lost the eventual league champions, Marywood University (L, 2-3 on Oct. 11), by a single score and took Immaculata University (L, 2-3 on Oct. 25) to overtime. Gwynedd Mercy University lost their other two AEC contests by 3-1 margins; Poole scored the final tally (3-1, 41:24) against Neumann University (Oct. 22) and Hoban scored the first tally (1-0, 24:24) against Manhattanville University (Oct. 29).
The Griffins gave the Pacers all they could handle as tallies from Reed (1-0, 5:13) and freshman midfielder
Rhyan Poole (North Wales, Pa.) (2-1, 38:27) kept the Red and Gold in the lead for a majority of the contest. Unfortunately, a late turnover, deep in the Gwynedd Mercy University end allowed Marywood University to steal the AEC prize in a 3-2 (59:12) conclusion. Williams was outstanding in the cage with several diving stops in a 12-save performance.
On Senior Day, the Griffins pulled even with the Mighty Macs on LePage's late first-quarter penalty stroke; 1-1 (14:36), and took a 2-1 (19:50) lead on an early second-quarter penalty corner connection between sophomore midfielder
Morgan Hoban (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and Reed. Unfortunately, Immaculata University evened the score late in the quarter, 2-2 (28:22), and capitalized on an overtime opportunity to steal the league prize; 3-2 (64:16).
In addition to Reed and Uttenreither, Gwynedd Mercy University got four points apiece from Hoban (4 points; 1 goal, 2 assists), Poole (4; 2, 0), Radcliffe (4; 2, 0), and sophomore forward
Allyssa Seifert (Philadelphia, Pa.) (4; 2, 0). LePage finished the season with three points (1 goal, 1 assist), including a penalty stroke goal (1-1, 14:36) versus Immaculata University. She was 1-for-2 on penalty strokes and she recorded two of the Griffins' three defensive saves.
Weaver (1-4), complemented Williams in goal. Over 224:25 minutes, she finished offered a .700 SV% and a 3.21 GAA.
