Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/21/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (17-16) continued to compete throughout Tuesday afternoon's nonconference contest, highlighting defensive execution and bullpen stability in a matchup against Alvernia University (17-19) at Frank O. Genuardi Field. The Griffins offensively did not manage a hit in the entire contest. Sophomore pitcher Kevin King (Ridley, Pa.) was a bright spot for the Red and Gold, tossing three innings while allowing just one run and helping stabilize the middle frames, including a strikeout. King induced multiple groundouts and kept Alvernia from extending its lead during his time on the mound. In the end, the Griffins fell to the Golden Wolves 13-0.
Griffin Highlights:
- The Griffins faced early pressure but responded with a key defensive moment in the first inning, turning a 6-4-3 double play to escape further damage and limit the scoring opportunity. That defensive effort set the tone for Gwynedd Mercy's focus in the field throughout the game.
- The Griffins continued to battle defensively late, with freshman pitcher Giovanni Marinucci (Mullica Hill, N.J.) closing the game with a scoreless inning, limiting hard contact and finishing on a positive note. Gwynedd Mercy's pitching staff combined to work through 11 hits, showing resilience against a productive Alvernia lineup.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Thursday, April 23, when the Griffins host Penn State Berks for a scheduled 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
