Griffins Walk-Off with Extra-Inning SF, Split AEC Score with Cyclones

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/2/2026) - Senior Ryan Kasper (Levittown, Pa.) kept the ball on the ground in the top of the 10th inning, senior designated hitter Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) rocketed a 1-1 pitch to deep center field for a triple, and freshman right fielder Charlie Neal (Mickleton, N.J.) took the first pitch he saw to left field to score senior pinch runner Jon Cimino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) for a Gwynedd Mercy University (12-11, 4-4) extra-inning walk-off in the second game of today's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) doubleheader versus Centenary University (N.J.) (8-14, 4-1); 4-3 (10). In game one, the Cyclones kept the Red and Gold spinning as a DeCarlo-Neal connection in the first inning was the only run the Griffins produced in an eventual 11-1 conclusion. DeCarlo was 4-for-7 in the twin bill with a walk and two runs-batted-in (RBI). Sophomore Dylan Ganey (Langhorne, Pa.) (2.1 IP, 2H, 1R, 2BB) and Kasper (W, 1.2 IP, 3BB, 1K) were perfect complements to a solid no-decision start from sophomore Connor Hafto (Washington Township, N.J.) (6.0 IP, 6H, 2R, 1ER, 2BB, 4K) in game two.

Griffin Highlights - Game One
  • Down 2-0, junior center fielder Noah Waldron (Collingswood, N.J.) led off the Gwynedd Mercy University half of the first inning with a single to right field. DeCarlo and Neal singled to bring him home; 2-1.
  • Waldron (2-for-4) and DeCarlo (2-for-3) were the only Griffins to record multiple hits.
Griffin Highlights - Game Two
  • The Griffin were down 2-0 in the third inning of game two. This time, a lead-off single from junior shortstop Jake Vitale (Laurel Springs, N.J.), a errant pick-off, a sacrifice bunt from sophomore second baseman Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.), and a DeCarlo ground-out to third cut the deficit in half; 2-1.
  • In the fifth inning, Vitale was hit by a pitch before Ross and DeCarlo recorded back-to-back singles to even the nightcap at 2-2.
  • Waldron led off the sixth with a triple to left center and a single to center from freshman catcher Jacob Ruddell (Warrington, Pa.) gave the Red and Gold a 3-2 lead.
  • Hafto was solid and left the game with favor after 6.0 innings. He allowed one earned run on six hits and two walks, while striking out four.
  • Ganey used double plays in the seventh and eighth innings, as well as the first out of the ninth inning to keep the contest in the Griffins' hands. Kasper (3-2) settled in and used a sacrifice bunt and a pair of grounders to keep the Cyclones scoreless in the 10th.
  • Vitale (2-for-3) and DeCarlo (2-for-4) recorded multiple hits. The latter also walked to lead off the eighth inning.
Gwynedd Mercy University finishes their AEC series with Centenary University on Tuesday, April 7, when they visit the Cyclones for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
