Freshmen Shine In Series Win Against Cyclones

Hackettstown, N.J. - (4/7/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (13-11, 5-4 AEC), traveled to Centenary University (8-15, 4-2 AEC), and wrapped up a giant Atlantic East Conference (AEC) three-game series where the teams split the series one-to-one on April 2. Looking to climb the standings, the freshmen made their impact in today's contest, securing a 10-2 victory. Both freshman pitcher Landon Glovas (Nazareth, Pa.) and freshman outfielder Charlie Neal (Mickleton, N.J.) were the stars on the diamond, with Glovas starting on the mound for the Red and Gold, shoving six innings and securing the win (2-0), and Neal finishing with a game-high three runs-batted-in (RBI) going three-for-five.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Neal got the Griffins on the board early in the first inning with an RBI single to left field, giving Gwynedd Mercy an early 1-0 advantage.
  • After the Cyclones' responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the second, senior outfielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridely Park, Pa.) hit a fly ball to right field, but it was deep enough to score the runner on third (2-1). Sophomore infielder Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.) also crossed home plate in the inning thanks to a balk from Centenary (3-1).
  • Gwynedd Mercy erupted in the seventh inning putting up a four spot. Neal knocked in his final two runs of the game with an RBI single (5-2), while junior outfielder Karl Wissmann (Cinnaminson, N.J.) nearly hit a home run but fell just short and still scored Neal and DeCarlo (7-2).
  • In the eighth inning, Gwynedd Mercy made history. Sophomore infielder Brady Belfus (Deptford, N.J.) was hit by a pitch, earning the team's 68 hits by pitch on the year, making it a new career-high in a season.
  • Gwynedd Mercy added a few insurance runs in the ninth with an RBI double from freshman catcher Jacob Ruddell (Warrington, Pa.) (9-2) and an RBI triple from senior infielder Colin Stocklin (Philadelphia, Pa.) (10-2).
  • Senior pitcher Zachary Freas (Mickleton, N.J.) pitched in relief of Glovas and earned his first career save in three innings of work, allowing just three hits.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Friday, April 10, when the team travels to Marywood University, with the first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
