Ross and Griffins Put Up Five Runs In The Ninth To Secure 10-8 Victory At Marywood

Scranton, Pa. - (4/10/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (14-11, 6-4 AEC), with three weeks to play and the Griffins only being two games out of the top seed, traveled to Marywood University (16-10, 4-3) to begin a three-game Atlantic East Conference (AEC) weekend series. With the score being tied 5-5 heading into the ninth inning, three singles to start the inning gave the Red and Gold momentum, looking to break the stalemate. A sacrifice fly from senior outfielder Jon Cimino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) scored junior outfielder Noah Waldron (Collingswood, N.J.) (6-5). A few batters later, the player of the day was sophomore infielder Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.), who drove in two runners with a run-batted-in (RBI) single (8-5). Ross went two-for-five on the day with four RBI's, including a home run in the fourth. The Griffins would tack on two more runs in the ninth and eventually escape Marywood with a 10-8 victory. Sophomore pitcher Connor Hafto (Washington Township, N.J.) shoved in his eighth start of the season, going seven strong innings, allowing just four hits, two runs, two walks, and striking out four in the no-decision.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Ross drew in the first run for Gwynedd Mercy in the top of the second with a bases-loaded walk, scoring junior outfielder Karl Wissmann (Cinnaminson, N.J.) (1-1). The Red and gold did not stop there as the next batter; senior standout Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) drove home two more runs with an RBI single up the middle (3-1).
  • Freshman infielder Felix Melendez (Philadelphia, Pa.) came through in a big spot for the Griffins in the third inning with a single to right field, scoring Wissmann once again (4-1).
  • After a homerun from the Pacers in the bottom of the third, Ross punched back with a solo shot of his own to put the lead back to three (5-2).
  • Sophomore pitcher Chase Hamilton (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior pitcher Zachary Freas (Mickleton, N.J.) helped get the Griffins over the finish line with the former earning the win (1-1) in one inning of work, while the latter secured his second straight save in two-thirds of an inning.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field on Saturday, April 11, when the team welcomes Marywood University for a doubleheader and also celebrates Senior Day, with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
