Kira Bradley (Langhorne, Pa.) was named the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week, while sophomore midfielder
Elena Colliluori (Gilbertsville, Pa.) garnered a spot on the AEC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll. Despite an 0-2 week of the Griffins, the recognition comes due to milestone performances from the Red and Gold midfielders. The former recorded a program single-game record 10 caused turnovers in the home opener versus Elizabethtown College (L, 10-25 on Mar. 4) before recording both the 100
th point and 100
th caused turnover of her collegiate career at Eastern University (L, 10-11 on Mar. 6). Meanwhile, the latter corralled nine draw controls en route to recovering her 100
th collegiate draw versus the Eagles.
Opposite Bradley, the AEC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honor went to Marywood University freshman attack Danica Kelly (Binghamton, N.Y.). Colliluori was joined on the AEC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll by Centenary University (N.J.) senior midfielder Nora Dornich (Belvidere, N.J.).
Gwynedd Mercy University (0-5) finally got out on their home turf as they hosted Elizabethtown College (3-0) for Wednesday night's Morgan's Message Game. The Red and Gold's strong second quarter kept the Griffins on par as a 6-2 (1:58) first-quarter spread turned into a 11-7 (0:05) halftime. Unfortunately, the same fight was not there in the second half as a 14-3, Blue Jay surge finished the game with a 25-10 final. Colliluori recorded a team-high four goals, but Bradley was Gwynedd Mercy University's top performer with two goals, five assists, nine ground balls, a draw control, and a Griffin single-game record 10 caused turnovers. Colliluori finished the contest with four goals, two ground balls, three caused turnovers, and 10 draw controls.
Gwynedd Mercy University had much to celebrate in Friday's contest, but its conclusion was bittersweet as Eastern University (1-0) scored the final tally of a tightly-played 11-10 (0:31) final. Before the game's dramatic end, Bradley recorded the 100th point of her collegiate career with her third goal of the contest (6-6, 0:59 2QTR), Colliluori recorded the 100th draw control of her collegiate career on the ensuing restart, and Bradley recorded the 100th caused turnover of her collegiate career with a strip off the first draw control of the third quarter (15:00). Bradley finished the affair with five goals, three grounds balls, two draw controls, and her two caused turnovers. Colliluori totaled nine draw controls in all, leaving her career total at 101; she also recorded four points (1 goal, 3 assists), seven ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Wednesday, March 11, when they visit Albright College for a 5:00 p.m. opening draw.
