Griffins Take A Blow Game One, Ganey and Offense Shines In Game Two Against Knights

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (3/21/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (8-7, 1-1 AEC), welcomed Neumann University (5-3, 1-1 AEC) to Frank O Genuardi Legends Baseball Field to kick off Atlantic East Conference play. The Griffins played the first two games out of three in this series at home in this important AEC matchup. Game one was all about the pitching as junior pitcher Michael Inglisa (Delran, N.J.) earned the game one nod on the bump. A five-run third inning would be the turning point, as the Knights garnered an important game one victory, 5-2. Looking to split the day and the chance at winning the series, the red and gold showed fight and determination, securing an 8-4 game two win. Sophomore pitcher Dylan Ganey (Langhorne, Pa.) came into the contest in a tight contest, 3-2, in relief for sophomore pitcher Connor Hafto (Washington Township, N.J.), and was lights out. Ganey pitched a very important four innings, allowing just three hits, three walks, and punching out a career-high six in the win (2-1).

Griffin Highlights:

Game One:

  •  After a five-run top of the third inning, the Griffins answered right back with junior outfielder Noah Waldron (Collingswood, N.J.) driving the ball to deep right field, just missing a home run but bringing home junior infielder Jake Vitale (Laurel Springs, N.J.) with a run-batted-in (RBI) triple (5-1).
  • The final run in game one came off the bat of junior infielder Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.), who knocked in a run off a fielder's choice (5-2).
  • Inglisa, other than five runs allowed in the third inning, put up 0's across the board. Inglisa pitched 5.2 innings, allowing ten hits, five earned runs, four walks, and four strikeouts in the loss (2-1). Senior pitcher Ryan Kasper (Levittown, Pa.) recorded the final four outs (1.1 innings) for the red and gold, allowing just two hits and striking out one.

Game Two:

  • With game one going to the Knights and trailing 2-0 at the top of the first, Neumann had all the momentum. Gwynedd Mercy did not back down as sophomore infielder Brady Belfus (Deptford, N.J.) and sophomore infielder Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.) both earned an RBI, bringing the score to 2-2 heading into the second.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, freshman infielder Felix Melendez (Philadelphia, Pa.) unfortunately was hit up high by a pitch but was able to bring home a run with the bases loaded (3-3). The next batter, Waldron, flied out to the first baseman, but it was deep enough to score freshman catcher Jacob Ruddell (Warrington, Pa.) (4-3).
  • Gwynedd Mercy's big inning came in the bottom of the fifth. The first run came off a balk to put the red and gold ahead 5-3. Ruddell put the ball in play to the shortstop, grounding out but scoring Ross (6-3). The last run of the inning came courtesy of Vitale's RBI double down the left field line (7-3).
  • Ross's excellent game two came to a conclusion when he brought home the final run for Gwynedd in game two in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single through the right side of the diamond (8-3).
  • Hafto started game two, going four innings, allowing two earned runs, with two walks and striking out three. Sophomore pitcher Chase Hamilton (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded the final three outs to secure the victory.

Gwynedd Mercy University finished their three-game series with Neumann University on Sunday, March 22, with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
