Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) finished the final week of the Griffins' stay at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational; 10-for-20 (.500) with two walks, three runs, and three runs-batted-in (RBI). The Red and Gold captain recorded an RBI in each of the first three games of the 1-4 week, including one as the by-product of a 4-for-4, two-run performance versus Albion College (L, 7-8 on Mar. 12). The performance earned him a spot on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Weekly Honor Roll.
DeCarlo was joined on the AEC Baseball Weekly Honor Roll by Immaculata University freshman outfielder Danny Nocito (Langhorne, Pa.), Marywood University senior outfielder/catcher Evan Bruder (Royersford, Pa.), Neumann University sophomore pitcher Rey Carrier (Bear, Del.), as well as Saint Elizabeth University junior first baseman/pitcher Trevor Policastro (Bayville, N.J.) and senior pitcher Stephen Crandall (Wood-Ridge, N.J.). The AEC Baseball Player of the Week award went to Marymount University graduate first baseman
Anthony Farmakides (Fall Church, Va.) and the AEC Baseball Pitcher of the Week award went to senior pitcher
Liam Progulske (Sebastian, Fla.).
Gwynedd Mercy University finished their week-long stay at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a closing 1-4 stretch that included a 14-7 win over Albertus Magnus College (Mar. 11). The Griffins also competed against the College of Saint Scholastica (L, 1-6 on Mar. 10), Albion College (L, 7-8 on Mar. 12), and Dickinson College (L, 3-7 and L, 2-9 on Mar. 13).
DeCarlo brought a run home against the Saints with a third-inning ground out to short (2-1). He also singled in the eighth to go 1-for-4. He reached base four times in the win over the Falcons as he connected for an RBI-double in the first inning (1-0), reached on an error in the second inning, singled in the fifth inning, and walked in the seventh inning. Against the Brits, DeCarlo reached base five times; he walked in the first inning, before singling in his second, fourth, seventh, and eighth-inning at-bats. He scored twice and knocked in a run (8-7) with his single to right field in the eighth inning. DeCarlo finished the week 3-for-7 with a run against the Red Devils.
Gwynedd Mercy University travels back up north and welcomes Lancaster Bible College to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field on Wednesday, March 18, with the first pitch being scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
