Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (2/8/2026) – Just three short weeks days from the start of the 2026 season, Gwynedd Mercy University Head Men's Lacrosse Coach
Blase Cesarone is happy to highlight the competition that lies ahead. "The team is excited to start the 2026 campaign. As a staff, we are eager. We have a lot of returning contributors who have proven themselves to be leaders, on and off of the field. We have a lot of valuable experience, so we look forward to the challenges and celebrations that lie ahead."
In 2025, Gwynedd Mercy University's season came to an end with a fourth straight Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Semifinal appearance; the Red and Gold used lopsided wins over Centenary University (N.J.) (W, 29-4 on Apr. 4) and Neumann University (W, 20-11 on Apr. 12) to earn a 2-3 record and a postseason bout with #1 Immaculata University. There, the 100
th career goal for senior midfielder
Ian Kish (Easton, Pa.) brought the Mighty Macs' 9-0 first-quarter run a close; 9-1 (1:20, 1QTR). A 6-1 second-quarter spread only pushed the contest further from the Griffins' grasp (15-2), before the heart of the Red and Gold showed in a 20-9 final. At season's end, five Griffins were recognized on the All-AEC Men's Lacrosse Team with junior attack
Josh Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) earning his second straight All-AEC First Team recognition and his older brother, senior goalkeeper
Jared Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) garnering his second straight All-AEC Second Team selection alongside Kish, junior attack
Gunnar Seaman (Worcester, Pa.), and junior defenseman
Dylan Gazda (Pottstown, Pa.).
Gwynedd Mercy University last played Moravian University in 2022 (Mar. 19), falling to the Greyhounds by an 18-7 final. All-time, the Griffins are 1-3 against them. After hosting Moravian University, the Red and Gold will welcome Albright College to campus for a 7:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday, February 18. The Griffins scored five of the last seven goals against Albright College in 2025 (Feb. 19), but ran out of time in an eventual 15-10 loss. Gwynedd Mercy University converted 19-of-23 (.826) clear attempts and trailed the Lions by just one shot; 53-52. They also won 9-of-20 (.450) face-offs with junior
Jake Tedeschi (Goshen, N.Y.) going 8-of-26 (.308) in the circle. Albright College finished 2025 with a 1-16 overall record and a 0-7 standing in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth; the Griffins are 2-6 against the Lions, all-time.
February concludes with a series of road games as Gwynedd Mercy University travels to Lycoming College (Feb. 21, 1:00 p.m.), Drew University (Feb. 25, 4:00 p.m.), and Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) (Feb 28, 1:00 p.m.) for their next three contests. The Griffins defeated the Warriors by a narrow 11-10 (Feb.19) margin and lost to the Rangers by a 17-6 (Feb. 26) spread in 2025; Lycoming College finished the season with a 6-9 overall record and a 2-7 standing in the Landmark Conference, while Drew University was 10-7 overall with a 6-3 standing in the Landmark. All-time, the Griffins are 3-6 against the Warriors and 2-2 opposite the Rangers. 2026 marks first year of competition for NDMU's men's lacrosse program.
In the win over Lycoming College, a connection from junior attack
Nick Citrigno (Southampton, Pa.) and senior attack
Dominic Romania (Phoenixville, Pa.) served as the deciding tally; 11-10 (3:16). The contest was tied at 4-4 (0:36) after the first quarter and 6-6 (1:11) at halftime. The Red and Gold took an 8-7 (1:55) lead into the fourth quarter thanks to a man-up goal from Devine, but still needed scores from Kish (9-8, 9:33), freshman attack
David Crespo (Furlong, Pa.) (10-8, 8:22), and Romania to run Lycoming College out the GMercyU Athletic Complex.
March includes the remainder of the Griffins' non-conference games as well as their AEC season opener with Marywood University coming to campus on the 28
th (3:00 p.m.). Gwynedd Mercy University will travel to Widener University (Mar. 4, 6:00 p.m.) and Alvernia University (Mar. 25, 3:00 p.m.), while hosting games versus Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU)-Florham (Mar. 7, 6:00 p.m.) and Cairn University (Mar. 11, 4:00 p.m.) during the month.
In 2025, storms dissipated before the Griffins scored the first two goals against Widener University (L, 6-13 on Mar. 5). Unfortunately, the Pride had other plans with a 4-0 second quarter and a 7-1 third quarter erasing the Griffins' 3-2 first-quarter advantage in a 13-6 conclusion. Devine and Kish split the Red and Gold tallies; the former took a team-high 12 shots and also recovered two ground balls, while the latter totaled eight shots, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. Widener University finished the season with a 4-14 overall record and a 3-4 standing in the MAC Commonwealth; all-time the Griffins are 0-3 against the Pride.
The Red and Gold last played Alvernia University in 2010, earning their second all-time win over the Golden Wolves by a 15-2 (Mar. 9) final. Alvernia University finished 2025 with a 7-9 overall record and a 1-6 standing in the MAC Commonwealth.
2026 will mark the first-ever meeting between FDU-Florham and Gwynedd Mercy University; the Devils were 10-7 overall and 3-4 in the MAC Freedom.
Cairn University (Mar. 11) was a 21-3 victory for Gwynedd Mercy University in 2025; it was the first-ever meeting between the programs and the Griffins third straight. The one-sided final that saw the Red and Gold scored the first 15 goals of the contest; Seaman scored six (14:16, 7:16, 2:12, 0:27, 12:34, 11:41) of those tallies before finishing the game with a career-high nine points (7 goals, 2 assists), three ground balls, and a caused turnover. He got plenty of help from Kish, who matched a career-high with seven points (3 goals, 4 assists). The Highlanders finished the season 1-11 overall and 0-4 in the United East Conference.
After their March-28 (3:00 p.m.) match with Marywood University, Gwynedd Mercy University's only remaining home game is an April-18 (12:00 p.m.), Senior Day game versus Neumann University; the Griffins will recognize seniors,
Zac Womer (Gilbertsville, Pa.), Citrigno, Devine, Gazda, Seaman, and Tedeschi prior to facing off against the Pacers. In 2025, Devine scored the game's first goal (1-0, 12:26, 1QTR), but the Pacers finished the frame out with a 4-0 run that spurred them for an eventual 10-5 win. Devine finished with three of the Griffins five goals. Marywood University finished 2025 with a 9-9 overall record and a 3-2 AEC standing; all-time, Gwynedd Mercy University is an even 12-12 against the Pacers.
Winless in 2025, Centenary University (0-12-1, 0-5 AEC) (Apr. 4) lost to Gwynedd Mercy University by an historic 29-4 margin. The Griffins established program single-game records in goals (29), assists (17), and points (46), while a season's best 32-of-37 (.865) face-offs. Freshman attack
David Crespo (Furlong, Pa.) totaled a program single-game record 10 points with six goals and four assists. The Griffins are 12-4, all-time, against the Cyclones.
Despite a milestone effort (100
th career point; 8-6, 0:46, 4QTR) by senior attack
Richie Hughes (Turnersville, N.J.), Immaculata University (Apr. 9) controlled the momentum in the second half of a 13-7, 2025 decision. Hughes was the only Griffin to record multiple points; he finished with three points (2 goals, 1 assist) and 10 shots. The Mighty Macs finished the season 14-6 overall and 5-0 in AEC play en route to their first-ever AEC Championship and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament appearance. The Griffins are 12-5, all-time, against Immaculata University.
In 2025, Crespo scored the first two Gwynedd Mercy University goals against Neumann University, but this time it was Devine who recorded 10 points as the Griffin attack totaled six goals and four assists by the end of the 20-11 victory. Despite only nine wins (9-of-35, .257) on the face-off and a 54-36 deficit on ground balls, Gwynedd Mercy University found victory with a 26-of-29 (.897) efficiency on clears and a 55-42 advantage in shots. The Knights finished the season 4-13 overall and 1-4 in the AEC; all-time, the Griffins are 13-3 against them.
Seaman gave the Gwynedd Mercy University something to celebrate in the 2025 regular-season finale as he recorded his 100
th collegiate goal with a second-quarter, man-up goal that reduced an early Saint advantage to 8-2 (10:36). Unfortunately, Seaman's milestone score was not enough to sway the momentum in an eventual 17-5 Marymount University (Apr. 23) win. The Saints finished the season 11-6 overall and 4-1 in AEC play; the Griffins hold a slight 7-6 edge in the all-time series.
The 2026 AEC Men's Lacrosse Championship is scheduled for Friday, May 1, with the semifinals scheduled for the home of the higher seeds on Saturday, April 25.
