Immaculata, Pa. - (4/25/2026) - The 2026 season officially ended today for #3 Gwynedd Mercy University (7-7) as the Red and Gold fell on the short side of a 14-4 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men's Lacrosse Semifinal at #2 Immaculata University (12-5). The Griffins kept the contest close early with an opening goal from freshman midfielder
Cooper Lachowicz (Toms River, N.J.) (1-0, 13:17 1QTR) and a second-quarter score (4-2, 10:28 2QTR) from senior attack
Josh Devine (Pottstown, Pa.), but late third quarter tallies from sophomore midfielder
Colin Vannais (Washington Township, N.J.) (11-3, 6:02 3QTR) and Devine (11-4, 4:39 3QTR) were too little too late to derail the Mighty Macs from their return to the AEC Championship.
Griffin Highlights
- Lachowicz and Devine's first-half goals were unassisted. Gwynedd Mercy University out-shot Immaculata University 19-18 leading to intermission thanks to a 6-of-10 (.600) face-off success rate and a 9-of-11 (.818) clear percentage.Â
- The Red and Gold finished the contest with 39 shots, 28 ground balls, and 14 caused turnovers; junior defenseman Joe Oriold (Southampton, Pa.) was responsible for half of the caused turnovers (7) and two of the ground balls. They were 15-of-20 (.750) on clears and 12-of-21 (.571) on face-offs.
- In addition to Oriold, freshman defenseman Caleb Gaines (Brookhaven, Pa.) (4 ground balls, 1 caused turnover) and sophomore midfielder Landen Ciran (Ephrata, Pa.) (3, 2) were effective as well.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Alexander Guardino (Lumberton, N.J.) complemented the Griffins' offensive efforts with five saves and six ground balls in the loss (7-7).
- The Red and Gold's offense was headlined by Devine, who took a team-high 14 shots to register his two goals. He also recorded a ground ball and a caused turnover.
Gwynedd Mercy Uniiversity finishes the 2026 season with a 7-7 overall record and a 2-2 standing in the AEC.
