Schwartz Last Griffin to Join Baumeister on AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll

AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll (4/28/2025): Jocelyn Baumeister, Avery Schwartz
Lancaster, Pa. – (4/28/2025) – Sophomore middle infielder Avery Schwartz (Collegeville, Pa.) is the last Griffin to accompany fifth-year pitcher/infielder Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll this year as she went 6-for-14 (.429) with two runs and five runs-batted-in (RBI) in a busy week that included a sweep of Albright College (W, 402,/W, 7-5 on Apr. 22) and splits versus Penn State Harrisburg (L, 5-9 (8)/W, 9-1 (6) on Apr. 24) and AEC rival, Neumann University (W, 3-2/L, 5-9 on Apr. 27). Baumeister was 2-1 with 2 saves over the same stretch. She held the Red and Gold's opponents to seven earned runs on nine hits and three walks, while striking out 16 over 17 innings. She also went 8-for-18 (.444) with a run and four RBI at the plate.

Marywood University freshman catcher Riley Knott (South Abington Township, Pa.) was named the AEC Softball Player, while AEC Softball Pitcher of the Week honor went to Marymount University junior pitcher/outfielder Bailey Demusz (Doylestown, Pa.). Schwartz and Baumeister were joined on the AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll by Neumann University sophomore utility Alexis Palombi (Sicklerville, N.J.), Immaculata University senior outfielder Bryele Anthony (Chatsworth, N.J.), and Marymount University graduate second baseman Hailey Leamer (Kent, Wash.).

Gwynedd Mercy University (12-23, 5-5) traveled to Albright College (3-27) for their final road doubleheader of the 2025 season. The Red and Gold swept the Lions with a 4-2 game-one victory and a 7-5 win in game two; senior pitcher Emily Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2-10) pitched a gem in the opener as she allowed one earned run on seven hits and a walk, while striking out one over six innings. In game two, sophomore pitcher Grace Carney (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) earned her first win (1-4) of the season with one earned run allowed on seven hits; she struck out one. Baumeister earned saves in both cases as she struck out two in a perfect game-one seventh, then allowed one hit and struck out three in the final two innings of game two. Schwartz went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in the sixth inning of game two (7-5).

Gwynedd Mercy University split Thursday afternoon's doubleheader with Penn State Harrisburg (24-10) as Schwartz forced an eighth inning in game one with her seventh-inning triple to right field (5-5) and Baumeister dominated the Nittany Lions in game two with one run allowed and eight strikeouts from the circle and a 3-for-4, four runs-batted-in (RBI) performance at the plate that ended the contest early. Penn State Harrisburg won game one; 9-5 (8), but Gwynedd Mercy University concluded the doubleheader in celebration with a 9-1 (6) win in game two.

The Red and Gold tasted both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in Saturday's AEC doubleheader finale versus Neumann University (10-30, 5-5) as both contests reversed fortunes in the seventh innings; the Griffins won the first game 3-2 with a three-run walk-off double from Schwartz; but lost the second 9-5, when the Knights plated seven runs in their final at-bat of the afternoon. The opener was scoreless through four innings as Baumeister commanded the circle. She gave up two in the fifth - both unearned - while allowing only two hits and two walk in a two-strikeout win (9-6).

Gwynedd Mercy University conclude their 2025 season schedule on Tuesday, April 29, when they host National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II member Chestnut Hill College for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
