Little River, S.C. - (3/14/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-7) played the final games at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, challenging Bridgewater State University (6-2) and the University of Minnesota Morris (4-8). Game one did not favor the Red and Gold offense as the team only managed five hits in the contest in a 2-0 loss. In game two, the Griffins offense came to life, bringing home six runs, but the pitching would come up short as Gwynedd Mercy fell to the Cougars 8-6.

Griffin Highlights:

Game One:

  • The Griffins only managed five hits in seven innings against the Bears. Multiple Griffins finished the contest 1-for-3 at the plate, including 5th-year captain Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.), junior Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.), sophomore utility player Hannah Cohen (North Whales, Pa.), and sophomore first baseman Kassidy Kehoe (Lansdale, Pa.). 5th-year pitcher Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) also recorded a hit for Gwynedd Mercy in the fourth inning with a single to left field.

Game Two:

  • Going into the bottom of the first down 1-0, freshman utility player Madison Heim (Orwigsburg, Pa.) evened the score with a single up the middle, bringing home Cordero (1-1).
  • In the fourth, freshman outfielder Chloe Heckman (Bethel, Pa.) continued her early season success with a run-batted-in (RBI) double down the left field line, once again bringing the score to a tie (2-2).
  • Heckman recorded her second RBI of the day with a ground out to the pitcher, but not before sophomore captain catcher Maya Hellyer (Quakertown, Pa.) crossed home plate (6-3).
  • The final runs for the Red and Gold came in the bottom of the seventh as Gwynedd Mercy tried to rally a comeback. Hellyer recorded an RBI single (8-4) through the right side, while 5th-year Kaylee Colantano (Clinton, N.J.) brought home two of her own (8-6).

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Keystone State with a 2-7 spring break and will take on Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday, March 18, for a doubleheader matchup. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
