Lancaster, Pa. – (4/27/2023) – With the conclusion of yesterday's regular and conference season contests, league commissioner Jessica Huntley has officially released the seeding for the upcoming
2023 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament. A perfect 6-0 conference record awards Cabrini University the top seed, while Gwynedd Mercy University's 5-1 league standing sets them and the second seed; both teams receive a bye in the quarterfinal round which will feature Saturday (Apr. 29) matchups between #4 Marywood University (2-4) and #5 Immaculata University (2-4), and #3 Marymount University (4-2) and #6 Neumann University (2-4).
Gwynedd Mercy University (7-8, 5-1) won their first five AEC contests of the season with consecutive wins over Immaculata University (9-7, 2-4) (W, 21-11 on Apr. 1), Marymount University (7-9, 4-2) (W, 17-16 (OT) on Apr. 5), Marywood University (6-9, 2-4) (W, 10-8 on Apr. 12), Neumann University (6-10, 2-4) (W, 16-11 on Apr. 15), and Centenary University (NJ) (0-15, 0-6) (W, 24-3 on Apr. 19). The Griffins' final AEC contest of the year sent them to Cabrini University (12-4, 6-0) on April 26. There, the Cavaliers secured the #1 seed for the league's postseason tournament with a 27-9 victory.
Gwynedd Mercy University has featured a balanced offense with six double-digit scores and a pair with over 50 points. Junior attack
Jason Eide (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) is tied for fifth in the league and tops the Griffins' season statistics with 59 points (29 goals, 30 assists). Freshman attack
Gunnar Seaman (Worcester, Pa.) is only four points behind with a team-high 34 goals – tied for third in AEC - and 21 assists in his first collegiate campaign. Junior faceoff
Evan Courts (Bellefonte, Pa.) has won 99-of-227 (.436) faceoffs and recovered a team-high 44 ground balls. In goal, senior
Chase McFeeley (Mullica Hill, N.J.) played a majority of the minutes (558:16) and earned a 5-6 record with 127 saves on a 15.05 goals-against average (GAA) and a .476 save percentage.
The winners of Saturday's quarterfinals will advance to the AEC Semifinals, which are scheduled for Wednesday, May 3. The lowest remaining seed will travel to Cabrini University, while the highest remaining seed will visit Gwynedd Mercy University. The AEC Men's Lacrosse Championship is scheduled for Saturday, May 6 at the home of the highest remaining seed.
