Tempe, Ariz. – (7/13/2022) – Gwynedd Mercy University was named among 125 women's tennis programs nation-wide who earned the distinction of
2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Teams (.PDF). Leading the way were four Griffins who earned individual recognition as
2022 ITA Scholar-Athletes (.PDF); sophomores
Rachel Kressler (Center Valley, Pa.),
Casey Meenan (Perkasie, Pa.), and
Moira Ryan (King of Prussia, Pa.), and senior
Jen Eisemann (Langhorne, Pa.).
ITA DIII ACADEMIC AWARDS
Kressler, Meenan, Ryan, and Eisemann were all named to the 2022 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) All-Academic Team with the distinction being the second for the first three. Kressler was named to the Gwynedd Mercy University Athletics Academic Elite for the fall of 2021 and earned the AEC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honor on March 23. Similarly, Ryan was a member of the Gwynedd Mercy University Academic Elite for the fall of 2021 and garnered a spot on the AEC Women's Tennis Weekly Honor Roll on April 12. She was also named to the 2022 All-AEC Second Team alongside Meenan for their 3-5 record at number one doubles. Meenan also earned All-AEC Second Team honors for her 5-4 record at number one singles. She appeared on the Gwynedd Mercy University Academic Elite for both fall 2021 and spring 2022. Eisemann earned Gwynedd Mercy University Academic Elite recognition in spring of 2022 and garnered a 2022 All-AEC Second Team selection for her 5-5 record between number one (0-1) and number two (5-4) doubles.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete one must carry a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5, or higher, and be listed on the institutional eligibility form for the season of competition. This year a total of 940 female student-athletes were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes. Teams must collectively achieve a GPA of 3.2, or higher, in order to be named an ITA All-Academic Team.
