Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/22/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (4-6, 3-3) put themselves in prime position for an Atlantic East Conference (AEC) playoff berth with today's 5-4 Senior Day victory over Neumann University (1-7, 0-5). The Griffins scored the first point of the match with an 8-1 number two doubles win from senior Jen Eisemann (Langhorne, Pa.) and sophomore Avamarie Backich (Southampton, Pa.). Unfortunately, the Knights took a 2-1 edge to singles play with consecutive wins in the first (8-5) and third (8-7 (7-4)) doubles flights. In singles play, the Knight lead slipped to 3-1 before individual wins from sophomore Casey Meenan (Perkasie, Pa.) (#1: 6-2, 6-0), Backich (#4: 6-2, 6-0), sophomore Moira Ryan (King of Prussia, Pa.) (#3: 6-3, 6-3), and sophomore Nicole Rival (Mickleton, N.J.) (#5: 6-1, 6-0) secured the Griffins the victory. Prior to today's match the Gwynedd Mercy University women's tennis team honored their senior class; Eisemann, Tarria Brown (Upper Darby, Pa.), and Josie Okyere (Lakewood, N.J.).

Gwynedd Mercy University now awaits the conclusion of the AEC regular season for seeding in the upcoming AEC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament. The postseason is schedule to start on Thursday, April 28 with semifinal competition.
