Lancaster, Pa. – (4/25/2022) – With the completion of league play over the weekend, Commissioner Jessica Huntley has officially released the field for the
2022 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament. A 2-3 league standing secured Gwynedd Mercy University (4-6, 2-3) the #4 seed in the postseason playoff and therefore will visit top-seeded Marywood University (9-7, 5-0) for the semifinal round. Both AEC semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, April 27; the Griffins and Pacers are set for a 4:00 p.m. opening serve. As the #2 seed, two-time defending AEC Champion (2019, 2021) Immaculata University (5-11, 4-1) will host #3 Marymount University (3-9, 3-2) in the opposing semifinal (TBA).
Gwynedd Mercy University visited Marywood University for their AEC match recently as the Pacers retied the Griffins by an 8-1 final on Wednesday, April 20. A 6-4, 6-0 win at number six singles from sophomore
Avamarie Backich (Southampton, Pa.) concluded the league match. Unfortunately, it was the only point Gwynedd Mercy University (3-6, 1-3) scored with the Pacers sweeping doubles play and consecutive singles victories in the second (6-0, 6-0), fifth (6-0, 6-0), third (6-1, 6-1), fourth (6-1, 6-1), and first (6-1, 6-4) singles flights.
The winners of the AEC Semifinals will meet for the 2022 AEC Championship, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 30 (TBA).
