Lancaster, Pa. – (4/6/2022) – Graduate Justin Collins (Springfield, Pa.) became the second straight Griffins to claim the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week title after scoring a 6-3, 6-2, win at number three singles in Gwynedd Mercy University's recent 7-2 loss to Penn State Brandywine. Collins also combined with sophomore Ian Gordynskiy (Quakertown, Pa.) to force a tiebreaker at number two doubles (8-7 (7-2)).
 
For the second time in five days, Gwynedd Mercy University (0-6) played opposite Penn State Brandywine (2-3). This time, the Griffins hosted at the GMceryU Tennis Courts and scored a pair of points on the Nittany Lions thanks to respective singles wins from Collins freshman Gustavo Bilbao (Madrid, Spain) (#5: 7-5, 6-4). Unfortunately, Penn State Brandywine got a head start with a Gwynedd Mercy default at number three doubles and added to the lead with wins at number one (8-0) and number two doubles, 3-0.
 
The Nittany Lions extended their advantage quickly in singles, taking the default at six singles, before clinching the match with a 6-0, 6-0, win at number one singles. Penn State Brandywine's lead reached 6-0 before Bilbao scored his 7-5, 6-4, victory at number five singles; 6-1. Collins made it 6-2 with his 6-3, 6-2, victory at number three singles, but Penn State Brandywine soon ended the match with a 6-3, 6-4, win at number four singles.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University begins their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) schedule Saturday, April 9, when they host Marymount University for a 3:30 p.m. match.
