Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/14/2022) – The Gwynedd Mercy University men's basketball team prepares for the next chapter in program history as the turnover of seven seniors from a year ago allows a new guard to take the reins. The Griffins finished out the 2021-2022 season with an 80-76 loss to #9 William Paterson in the opening round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). In 2022-2023, Gwynedd Mercy University will prepare themselves for the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Championship Tournament with a challenging schedule that includes National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division exhibition games at Delaware State University (7:00 p.m. on Nov. 3) and Wagner University (6:00 p.m. on Dec. 22), as well as a road game at local NCAA Division II rival, Chestnut Hill College.
The 2022-2023 Gwynedd Mercy University men's basketball season begins on Thursday, November 3 with a 3:00 p.m. exhibition at Delaware State University. From there, the Gwynedd Mercy University visits Penn State Abington on November 9 (8:00 p.m.) before welcoming Arcadia University to the Griffin Complex for the Battle of 309 on November 15 (8:00 p.m.). The Griffins won last year's meeting with the Knights by an 82-73 final thanks to a season-high 26 points from junior guard
Aziz Parker (Westhampton, N.J.) and a double-double effort (15 points, 10 rebounds) from fellow junior guard
Manny Clark (Pottsgrove, Pa.).
Non-conference play continues with November road games at Manhattanville College's A.J. Buchanan Classic (Nov. 18 & Nov. 19), at Alvernia University (8:00 p.m. on Nov. 22), and at Goucher University (8:00 p.m. on November 30). Gwynedd Mercy University returns home to start December as they welcome Bryn Athyn College to campus for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off on the 3
rd. The final month of 2022 continues with a December-7 (7:00 p.m.) battle of Griffins at NCAA DII, Chestnut Hill College. Gwynedd Mercy University then returns to the Griffin Complex for meetings with Cairn University (7:00 p.m. on Dec. 12) and Lebanon Valley College (3:00 p.m. on Dec. 17) before finishing out the year with a pair of contests at the Juniata Tournament (Dec. 19 & 20) and an exhibition at NCAA DI, Wagner College on December 22 (6:00 p.m.).
The New Year begins with the Griffins' final non-conference game of the season as they host Penn State Brandywine for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off on January 4. The AEC calendar starts just a few days later (Jan. 7), when Gwynedd Mercy University travels to Marymount University for a 3:00 p.m. contest. Additional AEC road games are scheduled for January 18 (@ Neumann University, 8:00 p.m.), January 25 (@ Centenary University (NJ), 8:00 p.m.), January 28 (@ Immaculata University, 3:00 p.m.), February 8 (@ Marywood University, 8:00 p.m.), and February 18 (@ Cabrini University, 3:00 p.m.). Meanwhile, the Griffins' remaining home conference games bring the Pacers to campus on January 11 (8:00 p.m.), the Cavaliers on January 21 (3:00 p.m.), the Mighty Macs on January 23 (7:00 p.m.), the Saints on February 1 (8:00 p.m.), the Knights on February 11 (3:00 p.m.), and the Cyclones on February 15 (8:00 p.m.).
Gwynedd Mercy University finished the 2021-2022 season with a 7-5 AEC record that included a 62-57 win at Centenary University (Feb. 7) and series sweeps of Cabrini University (W, 65-61 on Jan. 24/L, 55-68 on Feb. 5), Marywood University (W, 86-83 (OT) on Jan. 26/W, 90-81 (OT) on Feb. 16), and Immaculata University (W, 55-50 on Feb. 9/W, 92-88 on Feb. 14). As the #3 seed in the AEC Championship Tournament, the Griffins hosted #6 Centenary University in the quarterfinal round. A narrow 66-63 defeat excused Gwynedd Mercy University for their ECAC conclusion with William Paterson University (L, 76-80 on Mar. 2).
