DOYLESTOWN, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Tennis Team took on Delaware Valley and came away with an 8-1 victory.  Without one of their superstars, Natalie Danze, the Griffins still pushed forward and came up victorious against an up and coming Del Val team. The tandem of Amanda Goff and Katie Garthaus at #1 doubles took care of business, winning 8-2. Having to re-shuffle the line-up due to Danze's absence, GMercyU pegged in the pieces and made it all work sweeping the doubles and to go up 3-0. The third doubles combo of Jenna Trythall and Andrea Hernandez, came up huge, winning in a tiebreak, 9-8 (7-4),

In singles, Garthaus and Goff won in straight sets, using their footwork and hustle. Again, without superstar Danze being available, the Griffins had to move up players. The key and established players came through.

The match went until dark with #4 singles ending with rookie Nicolette Diaz, who played composed and fought herself to a very gritty 6-3, 6-3 victory in a win that was much, much tougher than the score indicated

"The score of Nicki's match was certainly not a true indicator of how hard fought her match was. It was one of my proudest moments to see what our coaching staff has been teaching her and for her to actually utilize the attacking strategy to come up so huge. Three weeks ago, she probably would have lost that match against a much more experienced player, but she is very responsive to coaching and I could not be more proud of her!", stated Holt.

The Griffins travel this weekend to Towson, Maryland to compete in the challenging, individual Goucher College Tournament along with seven other teams.
