GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Griffins Men's Tennis team kicked off it's spring season with an 8-1 loss to Clarks Summit in a Colonial States Athletic Conference Match.
CSU Head Coach Josh Arp and Co. took care of business only dropping one match. Playing without their #1 and #4, the Griffins gave it their all, but Coach Holt stated "They were the better team and they deserved to win. Coach Arp has done a nice job with his team which lost a lot of players themselves due to graduation like we did.".Â
Playing in their first matches ever, Jason Cavell and Rip Engel fought competitively against much more experienced players. Engel came up big with a close 6-4, 6-4 win in singles that looked like the famous "Thrilla in Manilla" boxing match. Freshman
Adam Chau, playing up a spot than he normally would, lost a very solid match 6-3, 7-5, showing his grit in the 2nd set barely coming up short.
Depending on the weather, the Griffins look to face Alvernia in Reading, Pa. tomorrow at 1 p.m.
