TOWSON, MD. -- In the prestigious Goucher College Tournament, the Griffins turned in a fine performance overall after day 1 of the two-day event featuring the host Gophers, along with Kean, Stockton, Lebanon Valley, and Stevenson. Gwynedd had finalists in four of the possible six slots.
Senior captain
Amanda Goff was both dazzling and brilliant in her play, winning 24 games, yet dropping only three.
Natalie Danze made quick work of her opponents, winning an impressive 24 total games as well and dropping only five total.
Katie Garthaus roared past her first opponent, 6-0, 6-1 and then ran into a dynamic, top gun from the host Goucher team and fought brutally hard in a 7-6, 7-5 decision (the equivalent of double overtime in other sports).
The dynamic duo of
Jenna Trythall and Nicolette Diaz took care of their first opponent, winning 6-0, 6-1. They found themselves down against the next opponent before rallying from behind, winning 7-6 in the first set and then rallying with an impressive 6-0 score in the second set.
Sunday's action saw Danze at #2 and Goff at #3 won gold medals. Garthaus at number 1 captured a silver medal while the first doubles team of Trythall and Diaz finished the two-day event going 2-1.
