ASTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy Head Men's Tennis Coach
Jim Holt was named the CSAC Coach of the Year for the second season in a row as the Griffins placed seven in the year-end awards announced today.
Four Griffins earned a spot on the first team in singles.
Alexander Channick at #2,
Joshua Carson at #3,
Kylil Curry at #4 and
Brian Irwin at #6 all picked up honors. Pete Brzezinski and
Blaine Grisak were chosen for the second team.
In doubles, the pairing of Curry and Irwin at #2 and Channick and
Brandon Rodriguez at #3 were named to the first team. The team of Carson and Brzezinski garnered a spot on the honorable mention list.
Channick was also named to the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team for the third-straight season.
Holt picks up his fourth coach of the year honor from the conference after guiding the Griffins to a perfect 7-0 record in league play and the top seed in this weekend's CSAC tournament for the second straight year. He won the award previously in 2014, 2010, and 2008.
Brzezinski picks up his third honor in singles and doubles. The 2014 and 2015 CSAC Player of the Year was also an honorable mention pick in doubles in 2014 and a second-team selection last season.
After back-to-back honorable mentions in singles, Channick broke through to claim a spot on the first team. He also climbed the ladder in doubles; a honorable mention in 2014, a second-team pick last season, and a first-team choice in 2016.
Carson repeats on the first team in singles and added his second honor in doubles after a second team pick last season.
Curry earns his first ever selection to the first team singles and doubles. Last season, he was an honorable mention selection in doubles.
Grisak also earns his first-ever honor in singles with a second team choice while Rodriguez bounced back from and injury that cost him the 2015 season with a first-team selection in doubles.
The Griffins (9-3), who closed the regular season with seven-straight wins, will open the 2016 CSAC Team Tournament on Friday as the top seed and will face #4 Neumann starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Legacy Tennis Center in Philadelphia. #2 Summit takes on #3 Marywood right after in the other semifinal. Friday's winner will meet on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for the championship and the CSAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Team Tournament which takes place next month.
