BLOOMSBURG, PA. -- The Gwynedd-Mercy Griffins toppled Division II Bloomsburg, 8-1, on Sunday to improve to 4-1 on the season.
In a match that was expected to be a shoot-out, the team played very well and swiped two of the three doubles, and proceeded to capture all of the singles. "I was exceptionally pleased with everyone's play," stated head coach
Jim Holt. Standout performances from juniors
Nicole Picciolo (Hamilton, N.J./Notre Dame) and
Kristen Kriebel (Hatfield, Pa./Pennridge) in singles and also in doubles were put forth. Kriebel in particular, had to claw her way back after taking a hard 6-1 loss in the second set. She fought back to capture the dramatic victory, winning 6-3.
The Griffins are slated to play Ursinus on Thursday and Cabrini this coming Friday in a Colonial States Athletic Conference match at a rescheduled time of 2 p.m.
