Griffins Just Keep On Rolling

MILLERSVILLE, PA. -- The Griffins traveled up the turnpike and made the long journey to Division II Millersville University today and emerged with an extremely gritty 6-1 win.

It started in doubles with freshmen sensations Natalie Danze (Lansdale, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) and Katie Garthaus (Egg Harbor Twp, N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) being paired for the first time all season. With spectators on the edge of their seats, the match went back and forth after the freshmen duo found themselves down 3-0 early on. The two then got it together and eked out the 9-8 win in dramatic fashion. Coach Jim Holt stated "I couldn't be more pleased with the 'Dynamic Duo'. For not having played together, they really came up huge! Both are immensely talented, but to be thrown together for the first time against a Division II team, I knew it would be a challenge against a strong Millersville doubles squad".

Second doubles was basically the Griffins' third doubles team due to being shorthanded, just like Millersville was, and they came out with a convincing 8-3 win. In singles, the Griffins grinded it out and pulled out four of the five singles spots to help seal the match. "All of singles played well, but Katelyn really was facing a tough opponent and really came through in the clutch; one of the better singles matches I have seen on the year. I am extremely proud of all the gals," adds Holt.

GM next faces conference foe Cedar Crest on Friday and then Marywood the following day in the battle of the two top dogs. in what could conceivably be a battle for the top spot in the playoffs.
