2013 Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament

BOX SCORE

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A 19-4 run to close the first half spring boarded the Gwynedd Mercy Women's Basketball Team to a 76-60 win over Washington College in the nightcap of the host's tip-off tournament Friday night.

GM (1-0) will take on nationally-ranked Montclair State, who pulled away from Scranton in tonight's first game, 86-75, in the championship game tomorrow at 2 p.m. The Lady Royals will do battle with the Shorewomen in the consolation game at 2 p.m.

Four Griffins finished in double figures, led by Jordan Dominic (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) who had a game-high 15 points and five assists. The senior drained four of the team's seven three-pointers on the evening. Junior Natasha Matthews (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) and sophomore Chandler DiFebbo (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) each added 13 respectively while senior Nicole Dougherty (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) chipped in 12.

Kelly Mitchell led Washington with 14 points and teammate Carley Kendall added 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Griffins got into early foul trouble but were able to keep a single-digit lead throughout most of the first half. Kendall's putback off a Mitchell miss underneath made 19-18 Gwynedd. Eight-straight points, kickstarted by a three-pointer off the glass from junior Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) helped to turn things around. Dominic would hit from downtown to send GM into the locker room with a 38-22 lead at the half.

In the second, Gwynedd looked to put the Shorewomen in their rearview mirror for good, leading by as many as 24 (53-29). Washington would close within 69-56 with just under four minutes to play, but were kept at arm's length as the Griffin defense held the visitors to a 27.9% (17-of-61) shooting night. GM was just shy of a 40% evening (28-of-71), but was able to force 25 turnovers which led to 38 points.
