GETTYSBURG, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy fell in the championship game of the Days Inn Tournament to the host Gettysburg, 58-52, Thursday afternoon.

The Griffins (7-4) trailed by as much as 17 in the second half, but fought to get within five points with just under two minutes in the contest.

Sophomore Natasha Matthews (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) led GM with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting. As a team, Gwynedd struggled from the floor, going 19-of-70 (27.1%), which was a season low. Junior Jordan Dominic (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) added 13 points as she hit three of the team's three-pointers.

Jessica Porter, who was named tournament MVP, led Gettysburg with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Alyssa Isler added 21.

GM would get out to a 7-2 lead as Dougherty converted on a bucket off a steal, but it would be the last bucket over the next six minutes as the Bullets ran off 13 points in a row. The momentum would swing back in favor of the Griffins as a 9-0 run put GM back up by one (16-15) with just over five minutes before the half. Like a pendulum, momentum swung back the other way as Gettysburg closed the stanza on a 16-4 spurt to lead 31-20 at the break.

In the second, the Bullets put the Griffins in a 17-point hole with 11:24 to play. Gwynedd rallied with eight-straight points and later get the deficit to single-digits. A three-pointer from sophomore Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) made it 50-45 with 3:20 to go.

Two free throws from Wassel again put GM down by five (54-49), with 1:48 left, but the Bullets hit in all four trips at the line down the stretch to hold off the Griffins.

Sophomore Shea Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic), along with Isler were named to the all-tournament team. Wassel registered seven points and nine caroms.

Gwynedd-Mercy returns to action on Monday when they travel to DeSales for a non-conference game at 6 p.m.
