CSAC Honors Five Griffins In Weekly Awards

ASTON, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy College had five student-athletes garner weekly awards from the Colonial States Athletic Conference on Monday: Meghan Bojanowski (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert), Chelsea Jones (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua), Brett Kubiak (Philadelphia, Pa./Milton Hershey), Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) and Trevor Sotell (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson).

Bojanowski was named the CSAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the second time this season after she had a huge offensive week for the Griffins, as the senior tallied 14 points (6 g, 2a) in two Gwynedd-Mercy CSAC wins. In Tuesday's win over Cedar Crest, she finished with a career-high 10 points, on four goals and two assists. On Saturday, she scored two of the Griffins' three goals in their shutout win over Immaculata. On the season, she leads the team with nine goals and 20 points for Gwynedd (6-7-2, 3-2-2 CSAC).

Jones earned CSAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors also for the second time this year. The senior secured two big wins at Marywood on Saturday to help her team clinch the top playoff seed and finish undefeated in conference play for the fifth year in a row. At #2 doubles, as she teamed with Caroline Lockwood to rally from a 7-2 deficit to go on and win in a tiebreak, 9-8 (7-5) while her #4 singles match went to three sets where she grinded out a 11-9 win in the third. This season, Jones is 14-2 in singles and a perfect 13-0 in doubles for the Griffins (12-1, 10-0 CSAC).

Kubiak is the CSAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the third time in the last four weeks. At the Connecticut College Invite in New London, Ct. the junior ran a personal-best in the 8k race, placing fourth with a time of 25:14 out of 233 runners. His time helped the Griffins to a 5th place overall finish out of 22 teams.

Kruk was selected to the CSAC Field Hockey Honor Roll as the sophomore posted a 1.97 goal-against average with 14 saves for the Griffins in their 1-1 week. On Tuesday, she made eight saves in a narrow 3-2 overtime loss to Richard Stockton in non-conference action. On Saturday, in a re-match of last year's CSAC Championship match, Kruk made six saves as the Griffins picked up a 2-1 win on the road over Cabrini. She currently has a 1.70 GAA with a .803 save percentage and three shutouts for GM (10-4, 3-1 CSAC).

And finally, Sotell was chosen for a spot on the CSAC Men's Soccer Honor Roll. The junior had a big offensive week for the Griffins, posting 12 points, on five goals and two assists, in two non-conference wins. After recording two goals and an assist in Tuesday's win over Bryn Athyn, Sotell recorded his first career hat trick, while also adding an assist, in GMC's 8-0 blanking of Valley Forge Christian on Saturday. This year, he is tied for the team lead with six goals and three assists for the Griffins (4-10-1, 1-3-1 CSAC).
