Faith. Family. Football.

These are the words that help define the coach and the man. Dan Algeo’s induction into the Gwynedd Mercy Athletic Hall of Fame was earned through the years of making the university proud of his coaching accolades and the way he went about his calling.  The beloved coach, teacher, mentor and friend was laid to rest this summer 2014, but, not before leaving his mark on the young men he coached.

His ten years at Cardinal O’Hara were highlighted by a Philadelphia Catholic League Championship in 2004, making him one of only two coaches to ever win PCL titles at two different schools, the other being Roman in 1999. He had also amassed enough wins to place him second on the all-time wins list for football coaches at Cardinal O’Hara.

However, his calling in life was much more than the 98 wins he amassed at three different high schools. His real gift to the world was his wonderful spirit and his steadfast belief that football had a way of molding boys into high character men, if done his way. He will always be remembered for his big heart, his contagious personality and his dedication to the people in his life.
