Baumeister Makes Second Straight Appearance on AEC Softball Report with Top Pitcher Award

Lancaster, Pa. – (4/4/2022) – Sophomore pitcher/second baseman Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) made her second straight appearance on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Weekly Report with her Pitcher of the Week honor. Baumeister led the Gwynedd Mercy University to league wins on Saturday (April 2) with pair of hits in both games and the game-two victory (2-5) as she held the Saints to one run on five hits and three walks while striking out five.

Gwynedd Mercy University (3-17, 3-1) grabbed an early lead in game one versus Marymount University (8-13, 3-2) with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore shortstop Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) led off the at-bat with a single to short. After a pair of fielders' choices, three two-out singles from sophomore pitcher Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.), sophomore third baseman Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.), and Baumeister facilitated a pair of Griffin runs; 2-1. Gwynedd Mercy University added to their lead on a Saint error in the bottom of the third, 3-1, and supported Focht for the victory. In game two, junior center fielder Emma Carney (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) and Baumeister knocked in first-inning runs; 2-0. Baumeister knocked in another run with a third-inning single to center, providing herself with enough insurance to earn the Griffins' second 3-1 win of the day. She was 4-for-5 with three runs-batted-in (RBI) in the twin bill.

Earlier in the week, Gwynedd Mercy University hosted Widener University (14-6) for a pair of wind-chilled affairs. The Pride took an early 4-2 lead and outscored the Griffins in a busy fifth inning to lead 7-4 headed to the sixth inning of the opener. An RBI single from Cordero in the sixth inning cut the final deficit to two runs, 7-5. In game two, Baumeister staked herself a 3-0 lead with a first-inning single and a third-inning ball to the Pride shortstop, only for Widener University to rally for a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning and an eventual 8-6 victory. She took no decision and held with Pride to two runs on two hits and four walks, while striking out seven. Baumeister was 2-for-8 with a run and a RBI in the doubleheader.

Gwynedd Mercy University briefly breaks from their AEC schedule to host Cairn University for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, April 5.
