Baumeister Named to AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll
Lancaster, Pa. – (3/28/2022) – Sophomore pitcher/second baseman Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) made an appearance on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll after making two starts and batting .500 (11-for-22) during the Griffins’ 1-7 week of play. Baumeister (1-5) earned her first win of the season while going 1-for-3 with a run-batted-in (RBI) in Gwynedd Mercy University’s AEC season opener versus Neumann University on March 21. She also finished the week with a 5-for-7 doubleheader versus Elmira College (Mar. 26).
Baumeister retired the last nine Knights in order and struck out five to earn her first win (1-3) of the season in Gwynedd Mercy University’s (1-15, 1-1) 5-2 game-one win over Neumann University (Mar. 21). Baumeister also knocked in the Griffins’ first run of the opener with a single to center field. In the circle, she allowed two runs on four hits and three walks. In game two, Baumeister went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles.
Gwynedd Mercy University held the lead at the start of both games of Tuesday's (Mar. 22) home-opening doubleheader with Ursinus College (7-2). Unfortunately, the Bears rallied late in both contests, winning the first 6-3 with a three-run fifth inning and securing the second 9-6 with eight runs between the fifth (3 runs) and seventh (5) innings. Baumeister was 2-for-3 in the opener with a walk and a RBI. In game two, she went 0-for-2 with a walk and a RBI on her first-inning sacrifice fly.
The first game of Thursday's (Mar. 23) doubleheader ended in five innings, while the second required an extra frame; unfortunately, King's College (PA) (6-5) won both as they defeated Gwynedd Mercy University 11-0 in game one and 4-3 in game two. Baumeister and sophomore catcher Abigail McCoy (Woodlyn, Pa.) knocked in runs in the Griffins' first at-bat of the nightcap. Baumeister was 1-for-5 with a walk and an RBI.
Gwynedd Mercy University hosted Elmira College (2-4) for a pair of interesting affairs on Saturday (Mar. 26) as the teams braved high winds, rain, and hail to complete the doubleheader. In the opener, the Eagles scored five runs before a single from Baumeister, a ground out from McCoy, and a walk to junior catcher Hannah McLaughlin (Stratford, N.J.) scored three Griffins in the bottom of the fourth inning; 5-3. Unfortunately, the Eagles added a three-run home run in the seventh inning to win game one by an 8-3 final. They completed the sweep with a 12-5 game-two win; Elmira College won a high-scoring third inning 6-4 and held an 8-5 advantage before adding two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Baumeister was 5-for-7 with a double and two RBI; she went 4-for-4 with a double and a RBI in the nightcap.
