Etter Earns Third Appearance on AEC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll

Kate Etter (Chambersburg, Pa.) earned her third appearance on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll this season with her performance in a 1-2 week of play. The Griffins’ leading scorer (186.0 points) totaled 46.0 this week, including 17.5 points (11 kills, 4 aces, 2 solo blocks, 1 block assist) against Rutgers-Camden (L, 2-3; 25-21, 26-24, 27-29, 11-25, 14-16 on Oct. 9) and another 15.5 points (15 kills, 1 block assist) versus Rutgers-Newark (W, 3-1; 26-24, 25-15, 18-25, 25-17 on Oct. 11).
In addition to Etter, a busy AEC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll included Saint Elizabeth University junior middle blocker Dadlyna Louis (East Orange, N.J.), Immaculata University freshman setter Angelica Santini Bulerin (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and senior middle hitter Maria Esposito (Havertown, Pa.), as well as Neumann University sophomore setter Kyla Carney (Morton, Pa.) and sophomore outside hitter Melissa Eddy (Dover, Del.). Marywood University freshman outside hitter Carolina Samaniego (Laredo, Texas) was named the AEC Player of the Week, while the AEC Specialty Player of the Week honors went to Marymount University junior defensive specialist Ava Humphries (Charlotte, N.C.).
Gwynedd Mercy University (5-9, 0-1) welcomed Rutgers-Camden (7-10) to the Griffin Complex for Thursday night's Side-Out Foundation Dig Pink match and grabbed an early 2-0 advantage with 25-21 and 26-24 wins in the first two sets. Unfortunately, the Scarlet Raptors took control of the match with a 29-27, 25-11 comeback that influenced their 16-14 deciding-set victory; 3-2 (21-25, 24-26, 29-27, 25-11, 16-14). Three Griffins finished with double-digit points, including Etter who totaled 17.5 points on 11 kills, four aces, two solo blocks, and a block assist.
Gwynedd Mercy University visited AEC rival Marywood University (17-1, 1-0) for Saturday's tri-match action. The Griffins and Pacers opened the event with a conference affair that saw the hosts take charge in a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-17) finish. The Red and Gold recovered from the loss with a 3-1 (26-24, 25-15, 18-25, 25-17) non-conference victory over Rutgers-Newark (7-13).
Career milestones were reached in both matches as seniors, middle hitter
Charlotte Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa.) and setter
Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) respectively reached 1,000 digs and 100 total blocks. But, Etter was the Griffins' top scorer in both matches; she scored 13 kills versus the Pacers and added a block to 15 kills against the Scarlet Raiders.
Gwynedd Mercy University plays next on Thursday, October 16, when they visit Widener University for a 7:00 p.m. match.
