Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) recorded her 11
th straight match with an ace and her eighth match this season with at least three aces when she spotted three aces in the Griffins’ recent 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-15) loss at Marymount University (Oct. 23). The performance earned her a mention on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Roll.
Marymount University sophomore outside hitter Harper Wolf (Austin, Texas) and senior setter Natalie Bialecki (Toledo, Ohio) were respectively recognized as the AEC Women’s Volleyball Player and Specialty Players of the Week. Gaston was joined on the AEC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll by Marywood University graduate middle hitter Casey Hagerstrom (Bethpage, N.Y.), Pratt Institute freshman outside hitter Kelsey Padilla (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Immaculata University senior setter Dinah Stabinski (Garnet Valley, Pa.), as well as Neumann University sophomore pin hitter Bri Gautier (Avondale, Pa.) and senior setter Dani Smith (Morinville, Alberta).
Gwynedd Mercy University (14-9, 1-2) continued their AEC schedule with this Wednesday evening's 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-15) loss at Marymount University (5-19, 3-0). The Griffins hit well in the second set - .222 (10K-4E-27TA) - scored three aces, and got a team block from senior middle blocker
Lexi Lane (Frederick, Colo.) and Gaston, but could not keep up with the Saints. Sophomore outside hitter
Kate Etter (Chambersburg, Pa.) led offensively with nine points on nine kills. Gaston finished the match with 23 assists, five digs, and 3.5 points as she added a block assist to her three aces.
Gwynedd Mercy University visits Pratt Institute for their next AEC match; opening serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30.
