Fox and Gordon Garner AEC Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll Honors
Lancaster, Pa. – (9/3/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University sophomores, forward
Demmi Fox (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) and defender/midfielder
Rebecca Gordon (Sicklerville, N.J.) were recognized on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll for their role in the Griffins’ 8-0 opening-day victory over Penn State Brandywine (Aug. 30). Neumann University freshman midfielder Julianna Hatt (Coatesville, Pa.) was honored as the league’s Player of the Week, while the AEC Defensive Player of the Week award went to Marywood University fifth-year defender Britlyn Higgins (Fort Worth, Texas).
Gwynedd Mercy University (1-0) started their 2024 season the same way they started their 2023 season, with a matchup versus Penn State Brandywine (0-1). From the first whistle, the Griffins dominated play as they used a 59-0 shot advantage to power a 4-0 halftime spread and the eventual eight-goal final.
Fox found senior forward
Bethany Beinlich (Forskville, Pa.) for the Griffins’ first tally – and eventual game-winner – just 8:32 (1-0) into the contest. Beinlich added another at 11:09 (2-0) and a third Red and Gold goal came at 19:30 (3-0), before Gordon located freshman forward
Olivia Crawford (Rockledge, Pa.) for Gwynedd Mercy University’s fourth goal (4-0, 44:45) of the first half. In the second half, Fox netted the next two Griffins goals; the first (5-0, 49:22) came unassisted on a loose ball, while the second (6-0, 56:26) was a rebound of an initial strike from junior midfielder/forward
Natalie Morris (Boyertown, Pa.). Fox finished with five points (2 goals, 1 assist) and four shots, while Gordon totaled eight shots in addition to her assist.
Gwynedd Mercy University travels to Cairn University on Wednesday, September 4, when they continue their early-season schedule with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
