Lancaster, Pa. – (3/25/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior/infielder
Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) made an appearance on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll after earning her second win of the season (2-2) in the Griffins’ recent 3-2 victory of Penn State Berks (W, 3-2 on Mar. 21). She held the Nittany Lions to two unearned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out eight. Baumeister was also 2-for-3 in the contest; she finished the 3-1 week 4-for-8 (.500) at the plate with a run and two runs-batted-in (RBI) in the Griffins’ 7-2, game-two win over Cairn University (W, 7-2 on Mar. 20).
Marymount University senior first baseman/third baseman Kaylynn Johnson (Alexandria, Va.) was named the AEC Player of the Week, while Centenary University (NJ) junior pitcher/infielder Jaelynn Miller (Oxford, N.J.) was recognized as the AEC Defensive Player of the Week. Baumeister was joined on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll by senior pitcher Shanyn Burch (Mechanicsville, Pa.), Cabrini University senior first baseman/pitcher Sam Kilson (Glenolden, Pa.), and Immaculata University senior shortstop/pitcher Jess Oldham (Wilmington, Del.).
For the first time since April 22, 2022, Gwynedd Mercy University (6-8) played a home game on campus as they welcomed Cairn University (1-11) to the grand opening of Frank O. Genuardi Legends Softball Field last Wednesday. In game one, senior
Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.) earned her second win (2-1) by holding the Highlanders to two runs on five hits and a walk in a 3-2 victory. The Griffins won the second game as well, 7-2, behind a winning effort from freshman Emily Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.); 7.0IP, 2R, 0ER, 1BB, 2K. Baumeister was 2-for-4 with a run as her base hits drove home runs in the third (3-2) and sixth (7-2) innings.
A sixth-inning triple to right field from freshman right fielder
Izzy LaPerry (Beachwood, N.J.) plated two key runs for Gwynedd Mercy University in a 3-2 game one final versus Penn State Berks (7-6). The Red and Gold looked to comeback in the game two as well; trailing 12-9 in the fifth inning, the Griffins scored runs on a ground out by freshman catcher
Maya Hellyer (Quakertown, Pa.) (10-12) and a single to right field from freshman second baseman
Avery Schwartz (Collegeville, Pa.) (11-12), but the Nittany Lions recorded the final out and darkness concluded the contest early. Baumeister earned the win (2-2) in Gwynedd Mercy University's game-one victory; she struck out eight without allowing an earned run on four hits and three walks. She was 2-for-3 in the opener and 0-for-1 in the nightcap.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Monday, March 25, when open their AEC schedule with a 3:00 p.m. twin bill versus Cabrini University.
