Eggers and Kesselman Conclude Regular Season on AEC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll
Lancaster, Pa. – (2/19/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior guard Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J.) appeared on her seventh Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Report this season with averages of 26.5 points (PPG), 5.5 rebounds (RPG), 2.0 assists (APG), 0.5 blocks (BPG), and 3.5 steals per game (SPG) earning her a fifth Honor Roll recognition. She was joined on the Honor Roll by fellow Griffin, graduate guard Sydney Kesselman (Philadelphia, Pa.), who averaged 5.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 2.5 BPG, and 2.5 SPG during the 1-1 week versus Marywood University (W, 77-46 on Feb. 14) and Salisbury University (L, 44-62 on Feb. 16).
Eggers and Kesselman were joined on the AEC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll by Neumann University junior forward Lauren Klieber (Malvern, Pa.). Meanwhile, the AEC Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors were respectively awarded to Marymount University senior guard Chandler Eddleton (Richmond, Va.) and Immaculata University senior guard Tessa Liberatoscioli (Malvern, Pa.).
Gwynedd Mercy University (9-16, 2-8) concluded their AEC season schedule on Wednesday, February 14, with a much-needed 77-46 victory over Marywood University (8-15, 2-8). The Griffins’ defense suffocated the Pacers, who trailed 31-19 at halftime and struggled to shoot over 25% (.257; 18-of-70) from the floor. Eggers shined in the win, hitting 12-of-25 (48%) en route to a game-high 28 points. She also recorded five rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal. Kesselman was a major factor as well with 10 points, five rebounds, four blocks, and a pair of steals.
The 2023-2024 regular season came to a close on Friday, February 16, with a trip to Salisbury University (7-16). The Griffins got out to a slow start with the Sea Gulls owning an 18-6 (0:06) advantage at the end of the first quarter. The next two quarters were more favorable for the Red and Gold, who gained two points on Salisbury University by halftime, 31-21 (0:35), and trailed by just five points, 39-34 (0:16), heading to the final frame. There, a 23-10 Sea Gull surge concluded the affair on a 62-44 final. Eggers finished the affair with 25 points, six rebounds, an assist, and six steals, while Kesselman pitched in on defense with a block and three steals.
Gwynedd Mercy University’s league win over Marywood University earned the Griffins the #5 seed for the 2023-2023 AEC Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament and places them at #4 Centenary University (NJ) for a 7:00 p.m. First Round tipoff on Monday, February 19.
