Kesselman Returns to AEC Women’s Basketball Weekly Report as Honor Roll Mention

Lancaster, Pa. – (12/4/2023) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior forward Sydney Kesselman (Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged 8.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game in a 1-2 week to return to the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Report as an Honor Roll mention. She was joined on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll by Immaculata University senior forward Tessa Liberatoscioli (Malvern, Pa.) and Neumann University junior forward Lauren Klieber (Malvern, Pa.). Marymount University senior guard Chandler Eddleton (Richmond, Va.) was named the AEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Defensive Player of the Week honors were given to Centenary University (NJ) freshman forward Vatijah Davis (Poconos, Pa.).

Gwynedd Mercy University (5-4) traveled to Rowan University (3-3) for Monday (Nov. 27) night’s contest. There, a tough night defensively allowed the Profs to secure a 93-64 victory. A lone bright spot for the Griffins was senior guard Ava Casale (Washington Township, N.J.), who finished the night with 23 points, two rebounds, two assists, and a team-high four steals. Casale came into the game struggling the past few games, but finished 8-of-12 (67%) from the floor and 6-of-9 (67%) from beyond the arc. Kesselman recorded six points, three rebounds, and a block.

After the difficult loss to the Profs, Gwynedd Mercy University welcomed the University of Valley Forge (0-6) to the Griffin Complex for Thursday (Nov. 30) night’s competition. Every player on the team contributed to the 83-49 statement victory over the Patriots, but perhaps none more than Kesselman who finished with her first career double-double as a Griffin with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She also added two assists, a game-high three blocks, and a steal to her stat sheet.

Trying to snap Delaware Valley University's (6-1) five-game win streak, Gwynedd Mercy University traveled to Doylestown, Pennsylvania, for Saturday’s (Dec. 2) contest. There, a season-low in points for the Griffins eventually lead to a 65-50 loss to the Aggies. Kesselman continued to be a force in the paint with a game-high three blocks. She also contributed six points, two rebounds, an assist, and two steals.

Gwynedd Mercy University looks to rebound when they return to action on Wednesday, December 6th, when they host Albright College for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff.
