First Two Collegiate Goals Garner Headley AEC Player of the Week Award

Olivia Headley (Langhorne, Pa.) made the most of her two third-quarter shots in Gwynedd Mercy University’s 3-2 overtime loss at Eastern University (Sept. 13) as she earned the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Field Hockey Player of the Week title with her first two collegiate goals. Marywood University freshman goalkeeper Leah Ewing (Drexel Hill, Pa.) was named the AEC Defensive Player of the Week, while Weekly Honor Roll recognition was given to her teammate, senior forward Cydney Lahr (Herndon, Pa.), Immaculata University junior goalkeeper Julia Lavase (Claymont, Del.), and Cabrini University juniors, midfielder Morgan McClintock (Chadds Ford, Pa.) and goalkeeper Courtney Keith (Phoenixville, Pa.).
Gwynedd Mercy University (0-3) traveled to Eastern University (2-2) and made the most of their two shots on goal as Headley dug the Griffins out of a 2-1 hole with her first two collegiate tallies (40:34, 41:56). Unfortunately, the Eagles erased the Griffin lead in the 44th-minute (2-2, 43:24) and eventually defeated Gwynedd Mercy University just 1:17 into the extra frame; 3-2 (61:17). The Griffins held the Eagles scoreless on six first-half shots and remained even with the Eagles at the end of regulation despite an 18-2 deficit in shots and penalty corners.
Gwynedd Mercy University was stalled through the first half of the contest as Headley's two third-quarter goals also accounted for the Griffins' only two shots. She scored the first on a feed from junior forward
Ashley Berry (Philadelphia, Pa.) and the second on a pass from freshman midfielder
Hailey Crosby (Afton, N.Y.); both assists were the first of their collegiate careers. In goal, junior goalkeeper
Morgan Lawless (Bristol, Pa.) totaled seven saves in the loss (0-1).
Gwynedd Mercy University takes their second attempt at playing at FDU-Florham on Monday, September 18,they visit the Devils for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
