Griffin Highlights
Game One:
- The opening two innings remained scoreless before the Nittany Lions broke through in the third with a single run. The Griffins evened the score quickly as Smith tripled down the right field line before scoring on a wild pitch (1-1).
- Cohen followed with a solo home run to center field - her second of the season - to give Gwynedd Mercy University a 2-1 advantage.
- Smith was 2-for-4 with two runs and two runs-batted-in (RBI). Cohen was 3-for-3 with a run scored an RBI.
- Freshmen pitchers Rylie Fitzsimmons (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Rylie O'Toole (Southampton, Pa.) split contest; the former took the loss (3-2) while allowing three earned runs on three hits and two walks. She struck out two over 4.1 innings.
Game Two:
- The Red and Gold showed resilience as they responded with first-inning runs from freshman outfield Stephanie Jones (Hatboro, Pa.) and junior outfield Sierra Miller (Telford, Pa.); the former scored off a single from Cohen (1-1), while the second when stole home; 2-1.
- Harrold looked to rally the Griffins with a two-RBI double that scored Jones in the sixth inning; 7-4.
- Cohen stayed hot at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
- The Gwynedd Mercy University bullpen was solid in relief. Freshman pitcher Lexie Kurth (Baldwin, Md.) stepped for a pair of outs (0.2 IP), while junior pitcher Grace Carney (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) recorded the last six outs.
Gwynedd Mercy University travels to Marywood University on Saturday, April 25, when they visit the Pacers for a 12:00 p.m. Atlantic East Conference (AEC) doubleheader.
