Red and Gold Can Not Keep Up With Saints Offense In Important AEC Doubleheader

Arlington, Va. - (4/18/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (16-15 7-8 AEC) traveled to Marymount University (18-14, 9-6 AEC) looking to keep their playoff hopes alive, taking on the defending Atlantic East Conference (AEC) champions in a doubleheader matchup. The Saints attacked early and often, outscoring the Griffins 37-9 during the afternoon.

Griffin Highlights:

Game One:

  • After falling behind early, the Griffins continued to grind at the plate and broke through in the fifth inning. Senior infielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) delivered a run-batted-in (RBI) single to get Gwynedd Mercy on the board (12-1), capitalizing on pressure created by freshman catcher Jacob Ruddell (Warrington, Pa.) and junior outfielder Karl Wissmann (Cinnaminson, N.J.) reaching base.
  • The momentum carried into the sixth inning, where Gwynedd Mercy erupted offensively. Following a sequence of baserunners, junior outfielder Noah Waldron (Collingswood, N.J.) delivered the biggest swing of the day with a grand slam to center field, driving in four runs (15-6) and capping a five-hit inning that brought the Griffins within striking distance.
  • Waldron finished with a team-high four RBI, while junior infielder Jake Vitale (Laurel Springs, N.J.) recorded two hits, including a double, and reached base multiple times. Wissman added two hits, and junior infielder Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.) contributed a hit and scored during the sixth-inning rally as Gwynedd Mercy totaled seven hits and six runs.
  • On the mound, the Griffins worked through a challenging offensive lineup, with freshman pitcher Cole Reinheimer (Hatboro, Pa.) providing two innings of relief and recording key outs late in the game. Gwynedd Mercy's pitching staff continued to compete and limit further damage in the closing frames.

Game Two:

  • The Griffins wasted no time responding after an early deficit, tying the game in the second inning behind a solo home run from Haines and an RBI single from Wissmann (2-2). The quick answer highlighted Gwynedd Mercy's ability to generate offense and capitalize on scoring opportunities.
  • Gwynedd Mercy stayed aggressive in the third inning as freshman outfielder Charlie Neal (Mickelton, N.J.) launched a solo home run, cutting into the deficit (7-3). The offense continued to apply pressure throughout the middle innings, consistently putting runners on base and forcing Marymount to work.
  • Haines led the way with a standout performance, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, double, two RBI, and two runs scored, while also adding a stolen base. Wissmann contributed two hits and an RBI, and freshman infielder Felix Melendez (Philadelphia, Pa.) added a key RBI single during a two-run fifth inning that brought the Griffins to five runs on the day.
  • On the mound, Gwynedd Mercy turned to multiple arms, with freshman pitcher Tristan Perry (Cherry Hill, N.J.) delivering a strong relief outing, tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to stabilize the middle frames.

Gwynedd Mercy University has a quick turnaround as the team returns to action on Monday, April 20, when the Griffins host the University of Valley Forge for a scheduled 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
