Griffins' Offense Scorches Rams In First Spring Break Contest

Davenport, Fla. - (3/6/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (5-1) began its annual spring break road trip down in Florida, taking on Suffolk University (0-1). After a scoreless two innings for both teams, the Griffins' offense erupted, scoring 16 runs on 15 hits in a 16-2 victory over the Rams. Junior outfielder Noah Waldron (Collingswood, N.J.) was just a single shy of the cycle, finishing 3-for-5 with a double in the third, a three-run homerun in the fifth, and a triple in the seventh.

Griffin Highlights:

  • In the top of the third, Waldron led off the inning with a double to left centerfield. Following Waldron, junior infielder Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.), took one for the team and was hit by a pitch, putting a man on first and second. Sophomore infielder Brady Belfus (Deptford, N.J.) brought both home with a rocket down the left field line and giving Gwynedd Mercy an early 2-0 lead.
  • The red and gold the next inning continued to put the pressure on the Rams' pitchers with a five-run inning courtesy of freshman outfielder Charlie Neal (Mickleton, N.J.) run-batted-in (RBI) single (3-0), a RBI single from senior infielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) (4-0), a RBI walk from freshman infielder Felix Melendez (Philadelphia, Pa.) (5-0), and a two RBI single from Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.) (7-0).
  • In the fifth inning, Neal once again drove a run home with a single up the middle (8-0). The next batter, Waldon, hit a three-run bomb to left field, extending the Griffins' lead to 11-0.
  • In the top of the seventh, both junior outfielder Karl Wissman (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and junior infielder Jake Vitale (Laurel Springs, N.J.) each had RBI singles. Waldron capped off his impressive day with a triple down the right field line, allowing Wissman and junior catcher Ryan Schultz (Westmont, N.J.) to cross home plate.
  • Junior pitcher Michael Inglisa (Delran, N.J.) made his second start of the 2026 season, pitching a strong six innings, allowing five hits and no earned runs. Inglisa allowed one walk and struck out four in the win (2-0).

Gwynedd Mercy University continues its play in Florida on Saturday, March 7, with a 9:15 a.m. start against Clark University.
