Men's Lacrosse Ends Opening Road Run with Loss at Widener University

Chester, Pa. - (3/4/2026) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-3) ended their five-game road schedule to start the 2026 season with tonight's 14-8 loss at Widener University. The Griffins improved a 9-3 halftime spread with a pair of third-quarter scores (10:17, 6:42) from freshman midfielder Evan Martini (Feasterville, Pa.), 10-5 (6:42) anf fourth-quarter tallies from sophomore midfielder Landen Ciran (Ephrata, Pa.) (13-6, 7:49) and senior attack Nick Citrigno (Southampton, Pa.) (6:57, 1:05). Senior attack Josh Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) scored three first-half goals and recovered two ground balls. In addition to Devine, Martini, and Ciran, sophomore attack David Crespo (Furlong, Pa.) also recorded multiple points with two assists in the second half.

Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University out shot Widener University 38-37 after successfully clearing the ball on 19-of-22 (.864) chances.
  • The Griffin also led the Pride in face-offs; 16-of-26 (.615), and ground balls; 38-34.
  • Martini's third-quarter scores were the first two of his collegiate career.
  • Ciran added a ground ball and a caused turnover to his score, while Citrigno scored his two goals with a team-high 10 shots.
  • In goal, sophomore Alexander Guardino (Lumberton, N.J.) took the loss (2-3) despite matching his career-high in saves (10) and recovering two ground balls.
Gwynedd Mercy University welcomes  Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) - Florham to campus on Saturday, March 7, when they host the Devils for their noon (12:00 p.m.) home opener.
