Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (3/25/2026) - Junior third baseman
Hannah Cohen (North Wales, Pa.) and senior shortstop
Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) both recorded the 100th hit of their collegiate career, but there were also wins to celebrate as Gwynedd Mercy University (5-10) held off a rally from Albright College (7-9) to win game one; 10-8, and used one of their own to steal game two; 4-3,

before darkness set in. Cohen's first-inning, two-run triple to right field marked her century hit (2-0); she (2-for-3) and freshman right fielder
Giavanna Kanaris (New Egypt, N.J.) (2-for-2) were the only two Griffins to record multiple hits in the opener. Freshman
Rylie O'Toole (Southampton, Pa.) earned her first collegiate win (1-3) with 3.1 innings of quality relief; she struck out two while allowing two runs on six hits and a walk. Smith was 3-for-3 in game two; her century hit came with her third-inning single through the box. In their final at-bat, six consecutive singles kept the Red and Gold moving around diamond. Freshman third baseman
Ashlyn Merz (Bensalem, Pa.) (3-1), junior catcher
Maya Hellyer (Quakertown, Pa.) (3-3), and freshman center fielder
Sierra Miller (Telford, Pa.) (4-3) plated the runs necessary for the heist.
Griffin Highlights - Game 1
- Gwynedd Mercy University jumped on Albright College; a one-out walk to freshman second baseman Macey Harrold (West Deptford, N.J.), a fielder's choice, a Smith stolen base, and Cohen's century triple gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead. Merz's sacrifice fly pushed the Red and Gold lead to 3-0.
- In the second inning, Kanaris doubled with one out. After, a single from freshman right fielder Stephanie Jones (Hatboro, Pa.), a ground out from junior first baseman Kassidy Kehoe (Lansdale, Pa.) brought home the next Gwynedd Mercy University run; 4-0. A walk, a stolen base, and a double from Smith made it 6-1.
- Merz was hit to lead off the third inning. A defensive mistake on the sacrifice bunt from freshman center fielder Nya Brown (Whitehall, Pa.) set the table for Jones. She reached on an error by the Lion left fielder that also allowed two more Red and Gold runs to score; 8-1.
- Needing some insurance, the Griffins used a fourth-inning Cohen single to center (9-6) and sixth-inning error at short (10-6) to score later on.
- O'Toole entered in a pressure situation and came through with a strikeout to end the frame.
Griffin Highlights - Game 2
- Gwynedd Mercy University fell in a 3-0 hole to start game two. They rallied with four runs in the fifth inning.
- Freshman right fielder Gianna Trerotola (Blue Bell, Pa.), Harrold, Smith, Merz (3-1), and Hellyer (3-2) singled before a Lion error allowed Harrold to score the game-tying run; 3-3.
- Miller's single up the middle brought the winning run home as twilight set in; 4-3.
- In addition to Smith, Hellyer (2-for-3) also recorded multiple hits in the nightcap.
- Freshman pitcher Rylie Fitzsimmons (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned her first collegiate win (1-0) with five relief outs; she struck out two while only allowing an unearned run on three hits and a walk.
Gwynedd Mercy University resumes their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) schedule on Saturday, March 28, when they visit Centenary University (N.J.) for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
