Gwynedd Mercy Goes Toe To Toe With #7 Salisbury

Salisbury, Md. - (3/23/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (9-8), traveled down to the number seventh-ranked Salisbury University (14-5) to see if the Griffins could stand toe to toe with one of the best division three ranked baseball teams. Down by one (6-4) heading into the top of the ninth, heads up baserunning from sophomore catcher Peter Burnley (Sicklerville, N.J.) and a good at-bat from junior outfielder Karl Wissman (Cinnaminson, N.J.); the red and gold tied the game at 6 apiece. Looking to go into extras, sophomore pitcher Andrew Klitsch (Quakertown, Pa.) (0-1) looked to shut out the Sea Gulls high powered offense. Unfortunately, with the bases loaded, Klitsch hit a batter which brought in the winning run as Salisbury defeated Gwynedd Mercy 7-6.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Senior infielder captain Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) continues to set the pace for the Griffins offensively this season and today was no different. In the third inning, DeCarlo brought home the first run for Gwynedd Mercy with a run-batted-in (RBI) single, allowing senior infielder Colin Stocklin (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2-1). The next batter was freshman outfielder Chliare Neal (Mickleton, N.J.), who also hit an RBI single to knot the game at two. The Griffins put up their final run of the inning as Wissman reached on a fielder's choice, bringing home sophomore infielder Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.) and gave the Griffins their first lead (3-2).
  • Once again down by two in the top of the seventh, sophomore infielder Brady Belfus (Deptford, N.J.) hit an RBI double, splitting the gap in left centerfield to bring home DeCarlo (5-4).
  • Junior pitcher Patrick Talley (Collingswood, N.J.) was asked to try and contain the Sea Gulls offense and did just that. Talley went five innings allowing only three earned runs on seven hits, three walks, and striking out three. Also seeing action on the mound was sophomore Jay Perez (Philadelphia, Pa.), sophomore Kevin King (Ridley, Pa.), sophomore Dylan Ganey (Langhorne, Pa.), and Klitsch. Perez went two thirds of an inning; King went one full inning; and Ganey went one third recording a strikeout.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to Atlantic East Conference play when the team hosts Immaculata University on Friday, March 27, with the first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
