Griffins Return To Frank O. Genuardi Welcoming Chargers

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (3/18/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (7-6), after a week-long trip down in Florida, returned to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Baseball field to host the Lancaster Bible Chargers (6-5). The Griffins throughout the contest stayed inside the strike zone offensively and did not chase many pitches as the team walked a season-high 11 times, which helped secure a 12-2 victory. Junior pitcher Patrick Talley (Collingswood, N.J.) had his best start in his career with the red and gold, pitching a career-high six innings, allowing only three hits, one run, while striking out three in the win (1-1). Freshman outfielder Charlie Neal (Mickelton, N.J.) was a dominant force at the plate, going two-for-four with a game-high three runs batted in (RBI) with two walks.

Griffin Highlights:

  • After a shaky top of the first inning, the Griffins answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. With the bases loaded, sophomore infielder Brady Belfus (Deptford, N.J.) put the bat to the ball and grounded out to second base, but allowed all baserunners to move 90 feet and score junior outfielder Noah Waldron (Collingswood, N.J.) (1-1). A wild pitch in the same inning gave the Griffins the lead (2-1), and they would not look back.
  • An RBI rocket from Belfus (3-1) to left center in the third inning kick-started the four runs the team would put up. A few batters later, freshman catcher Jacob Ruddell (Warrington, Pa.) took one for the team as he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home another run (4-1). An excellent place bunt from junior infielder Jake Vitale (Laurel Springs, N.J.) not only allowed him to reach first safely but also brought home Belfus (5-1). With the bases still loaded, junior infielder Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.) brought home the final run of the fourth inning with a walk to go ahead 6-1.
  • In the fifth inning, Ruddell hit an RBI single to score junior outfielder Karl Wissman (Cinnaminson, N.J.) (7-1).
  • An error from the second baseman, an RBI walk from Neal, and an RBI single from senior infielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) in the seventh inning put Gwynedd Mercy ahead 10-2.
  • The final two runs of the contest would come off Neal's bat with a two RBI single through the right side of the diamond and the eventual 12-2 win.
  • In relief of Talley, senior pitcher Zacahry Freas (Mickleton, N.J.) and sophomore pitcher Dylan Ganey (Langhorne, Pa.) put the finishing touches on for the Griffins. Freas was only to record one out in his outing off a strikeout, but Ganey pitched a strong 1.2 innings, allowing no walks, no hits, and striking out two.
Gwynedd Mercy University starts Atlantic East Conference play as the team welcomes Neumann University to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field on Saturday, March 21, with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
