Gwynedd Mercy Bids Farwell To Florida, Drops Doubleheader To Dickson

Winter Haven, Fla. - (3/13/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (7-6) played its final games down in Florida on Friday as the team faced Dickson College for a doubleheader affair (10-5). Looking to go .500 or better during their spring road trip, the red and gold would need to at least split with Dickson. Ultimately, the Griffins were held in check in both contests, scoring just five runs combined and dropping game one 7-3 and game two 9-2. Sophomore infielder Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.) showed off his speed and power in the doubleheader, going 2-for-4 with two runs-batted-in (RBI) with an RBI double in game one and an RBI triple in game two.

Griffin Highlights:

Game One:

  • Down 1-0 after a passed ball at the top of the second, Ross picked up his catcher with an RBI double to score freshman outfield Charlie Neal (Mickleton, N.J.), putting the Griffins on the board (1-1).
  • Dickson College would go on to score five unanswered runs, but Gwynedd Mercy would not roll over. In the bottom of the fourth, junior outfielder Karl Wissman (Cinnaminson, N.J.) RBI single helped score senior infielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) (6-2).
  • The Griffins would score their final run in the sixth thanks to Wissman putting the pressure on the defense by putting the bat to the ball and forcing the defense to make a play. The first baseman for Dickson would fail to complete the play, giving Wissman his second RBI of the day (6-3).
  • Gwynedd Mercy would use three pitchers in game one with sophomore pitcher Connor Hafto (Washington Township, N.J.) starting the contest. Hafto pitched four innings, allowing five earned runs, nine hits, two walks, and three strikeouts in the loss (2-1). Senior pitcher Zachary Freas (Mickleton, N.J.) pitched a strong two innings, only allowing two hits, a walk, and a strikeout. Following Freas was sophomore pitcher Jay Perez (Philadelphia, Pa.), who made his first appearance in the 2026 season. Perez pitched the final inning (7th), allowing one earned run on two hits.

Game Two:

  • Like game one, Ross got the scoring started with an RBI triple to again score Neal, giving Gwynedd Mercy a 1-0 lead in the fourth.
  • Sophomore infielder Brady Belfus (Deptford, N.J.) brought home the final run not only in game two but in Florida in the sixth inning with a groundout to the shortstop, allowing Neal once again to score (3-2).
  • Senior pitcher Ryan Kasper (Levittown, Pa.) started game two on the bump and pitched a solid four innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits, two walks, while striking out four. Sophomore pitcher Dylan Ganey (Langhorne, Pa.) struggled in relief, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs, eight hits, one walk, and striking out one. Freshman pitcher Giovanni Marinucci (Mullica Hill, N.J.) recorded the final out (0.1 innings pitched), allowing just one hit in his short stint.
  • Gwynedd Mercy went 3-5 in their spring road trip.

Gwynedd Mercy University travels back up north and welcomes Lancaster Bible College to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field on Wednesday, March 18, with the first pitch being scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
