Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (2/10/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University Head Men's Basketball Coach Darnell "Speedy" Artis '16 is pleased to welcome
Jheron Dawson-Johnson to his staff as an assistant for the 2025-2026 season, "Jheron is eager to learn and he has already been through the collegiate basketball experience. Adding him was a key. I remember how valuable it was to have a younger coach around. Jheron is a proven winner and we are excited to have him om staff." Dawson-Johnson most recently served as head coach for the 2023-2024 Community College of Philadelphia women's basketball team.
"I feel very grateful and blessed to have this opportunity to coach at such a young age," said Coach Dawson-Johnson. "I feel I can connect with this generation of players. It was not too long ago, that I was in their shoes. I look forward to starting my collegiate coaching here, at Gwynedd Mercy University." Coach Dawson-Johnson spent four years (2015-2019) as a student-athlete Penn State Wilkes-Barre under Head Coach Leshawn Hammett. There, he helped lead the Nittany Lions to a pair of Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) (2017-2018, 2018-2019) and a pair of United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament appearances in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019, while establishing himself as the program's all-time leader in wins (64) as a player. He finished his collegiate career with 491 points (4.4/game), 227 rebounds (2.0/game), 216 assists (1.9/game), 95 steals (.86/game), and six blocks (.05/game).
Dawson-Johnson graduated from Penn State Wilkes-Barre in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in rehabilitation and human services.
