Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (5/27/2025) – Fresh off his second straight All-Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball First Team selection, Gwynedd Mercy University senior outfielder/pitcher Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) was named to the 2025 D3Baseball.com All-Region 5 Third Team (Region 5) at the utility position. This is the second D3Baseball.com All-Region 5 selection for Root as the Griffins' two-year captain (2024, 2025) also garnered Second Team honors in 2023.
 
In 2025, Root concluded a brilliant collegiate career with another impressive two-way season. He totaled 21 runs and 31 runs-batted-in (RBI) with a .331 (42-for-127)/.443/.362 slash line. His 26 walks ranked third in the AEC. Meanwhile, on the mound, Root sported a 0-3 record with a 4.71 earned run average (ERA) over 57.1 innings (9app-9gs). He struck out 31 and held his opponents to a .313 batting average (BAA).
 
Root finished his collegiate career as one of two Griffins all-time to record 100 hits and 100 strikeouts as he accomplished the first feat with single to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning of an April-1, 7-4 victory over Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) and the second with his fifth – and final – strikeout of a May-2, 3-2 loss to Marywood University.
 
Overall Root is a three-time member of the All-AEC Baseball Team with a 2023 Second Team selection complementing his more recent First Team laurels.
