Softball Splits with Mighty Macs, Baumeister Surpasses 300 Career Strikeouts

Immaculata, Pa. - (4/17/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (8-21, 4-4) evened their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) record at 4-4 with this afternoon's doubleheader split 300 Career Strikeouts - Jocelyn Baumeister - 04172025 @ Immaculata University at Immaculata University (13-7, 5-3). The Mighty Macs doubled-up the Griffins in game one; 10-5, but in game two, an early three-run double off the bat of fifth-year center fielder Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) gave fellow fifth-year Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) enough headway to carry the Red and Gold to a 6-3 victory. Baumeister recorded the 300th strikeout of her collegiate career with the second batter of the Mighty Macs' first at-bat. Cordero went 4-for-6 with two walks, two runs, and five runs-batted-in (RBI).

Griffin Highlights
    Game One
  •  Gwynedd Mercy University got on the scoreboard in their first at-bat of the afternoon as a lead-off walk to Cordero, a sacrifice bunt from sophomore second baseman Avery Schwartz (Collegeville, Pa.), and a two-out single to center field from sophomore third baseman Hannah Cohen (North Wales, Pa.); 1-0.
  • The Griffins scored in similar fashion in the second inning. This time, a lead-off single from fifth-year catcher Kaylee Colantano (Clinton, N.J.), a sacrifice from senior right fielder Carly Maw (Bensalem, Pa.), a single from senior left fielder Ally McDaid (Maple Glen, Pa.), and a Cordero sacrifice fly did the trick; 3-2.
  • Unfortunately, that is as close at the game would get as Immaculata University padded their lead with three runs in the third inning (6-2), two in the fourth (8-5), and two more in the sixth; 10-5.
  • Cordero went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs, and her RBI.
  • Cohen went 4-for-4 as she also led off the third inning with a double, recorded a two-out, RBI single in the fourth, and another double in the sixth.
  • McDaid (3-for-4) and senior pitcher Emily Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2-for-4) also recorded multiple hits in the affair.
    Game Two
  • After celebrating Beumeister's milestone strikeout in the first inning, Gwynedd Mercy University rewarded her with four runs in the second inning; a couple beam balls, a Colantano sacrifice, a single from Maw, a McDaid RBI-single (1-0), and Cordero's base-clearing out the runs on the board.
  • The Mighty Macs tried to rally with a run in the second inning (4-1), third (4-2), and fourth (5-3), but the Red and Gold used a sacrifice fly from junior shortstop Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) and a fifth-inning RBI single from Cordero (6-3).
  • Cordero went 2-for-3 with a walk and 4 RBI.
  • Baumeister earned the win (7-6). She allowed two earned runs on nine hits and a walk, while striking out eight.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action after the Easter Holiday as they visit Albright College for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 22.
