Red and Gold Battles Pride and Spreads Morgan's Message Through Rainy Weather

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (3/5/2025) - The stormy weather dissipated as this evening's Morgan's Message game versus Widener University (1-4) grew long. Gwynedd Mercy University (1-5) scored the first two goals of the contest (12:40, 10:01) courtesy of junior midfielder Josh Devine (Pottstown, Pa.), but the Pride had other plans with a 4-0 second quarter and a 7-1 third quarter erasing the Griffins' 3-2 first-quarter advantage. Devine and senior midfielder Ian Kish (Easton, Pa.) split the Red and Gold tallies; the former took a team-high 12 shots and also recovered two ground balls, while the latter totaled eight shots, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.

Griffin Highlights
  • Senior attack Richie Hughes (Turnersville, N.J.) found Devine for his first tally; 1-0 (12:40). The second (2-0, 10:01) Devine score came with a reverse spin-move that forced Widener University to an early timeout.
  • Devine's third goal came with 9:24 remaining in the third quarter; 7-4.
  • Kish scored with 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter (3-2, 0:30) and reemerged at the end of the game with the affair's final two tallies (9:09, 2:28).
  • Sophomore defenseman Joe Oriold (Southampton, Pa.) was the standout in the Red and Gold backfield with five ground balls and a caused turnover.
  • Oriold got help keeping the Pride off senior goalkeeper Josh Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) from senior midfielder Nathan Tindall (Douglassville, Pa.) and sophomore long stick midfielder Bryce Gaffney (Turnersville, N.J.). Tindall totaled four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Gaffney recorded a ground ball and two caused turnovers.
  • Gwynedd Mercy University was 21-for-29 (.724) on their clears and 5-of-22 (.227) on the face-offs.
Morgan's Message mission is to amplify stories, resources, and expertise to strengthen student-athlete mental health, build a community by and for athletes through peer-to-peer conversations and provide a platform for advocacy. Established in 2020, the community organization strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. They aim to expand the dialogue on mental health by normalizing conversations, empowering those who suffer in silence, and supporting those who feel alone.

Gwynedd Mercy University concludes their recent home stand on Saturday, March 8, when they host Nichols College for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
