uTysons, Va. - (5/8/2024) - The 2024 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Championship Tournament began with today, Wednesday, April 8, for #4 Gwynedd Mercy University (14-25), who visited #1 Marymount University (31-9) this afternoon for a First Round contest. The Saints scored two runs in their first at-bat (0-2), two more in their fourth (0-4), and another in their fifth to lead the Griffins 5-0 midway through the postseason affair. Freshman second baseman Daulton McDonald (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and junior first baseman Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) both singled home runs in the top of the seventh inning (2-5), but Marymount University matched the production in the bottom of the frame (2-7) to provide enough insurance for an eighth-inning, three-run home run from senior catcher Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.) in an eventual 8-5 final.

Griffin Highlights

• Gwynedd Mercy University's seventh inning began with a lead-off single to right field from freshman third baseman Ryan Horner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and escalated with a single from Price and an error at third base. McDonald knocked in a run with a grounder to third and Templeton knocked in another with a two-out single; 5-2.
• In the eighth inning, senior pitcher/designated hitter Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) led off with a walk and moved to second base on a fielder's choice-error, before scoring along with freshman shortstop Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.) on Price's three-run shot; 7-5.
• Templeton (3-for-5) and Price (3-for-4) each had three hits in the contest.
• Ebling (6-4) held Marymount University to three earned runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out two in five innings of work.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their postseason on Friday, May 10, when they meet #2 Cabrini University at Shenandoah University's Bridgeforth Stadium for a 9:00 a.m. elimination game.
